Z Man Chatterbait Micro trailer?

I've bought a couple ultralight Chatterbaits Micros 1/8 oz. to try out, but I'm not sure what trailers to put on them. Straight tail, curly tail single, curly tail double, a small swimsuit? I don't want to kill the nice wobble action of the bait. Anyone use these little baits?

I've played around with them. My advice is to go thin on the trailer, like a 2.8 Fat swing impact is much too large unless you want to wake it. Probably want to keep the trailer size below a 1/4" thick to keep it thumping at a decent depth. Other than that, they're like a standard chatterbait, so you can put a straight tail on it and the vibration would add enough action.

As was said, you really need to be careful about the size of the trailer. Even the Keitech 2.8 is a bit much in my opinion. I have caught a lot of fish using the last two inches or so of a 4" ringworm. It works on the 1/8 and 1/4. My kids throw these baits a lot because they are easy to fish on spinning tackle. I throw them on BFS tackle.

I just use a size4 trailer hook, usually in red. I have found anything else just bogs down the action.

You guys have actually used micros and minis that function properly? I bought 3 of each and not one ran properly or if it initially did it stopped shortly thereafter

Only thing I ever caught on one of these was a big rock bass, using the Black/Blue Micro Chatter, with a Tiny Paca Chunk, also in a black/blue pattern.

I've tried the chatterbaits before and they are money for ponds or small rivers. I went with a Zoom Swimming Fluke Jr. and just bit it down to what I felt looked right. It worked well and I caught many fish but it definitely caused the bait to rise/wake as previously mentioned.

I'm curious if something like a 3" Grub may work. It wouldn't offer much in the way of buoyancy. But should give some tail action.

There are two problems with the Micro and the Mini that cause them to not vibrate very well. First, the snap is too large. Try a smaller egg snap (size 1) or duo lock snap. Second, the factory skirt is too large, and the connected umbrella style strands cause too much drag. I hand tie 20-25 strands of silicone material, which lessens the drag compared to the factory skirt. Even with these modifications, these small baits are still a little finicky, just less so. It doesn't take much to mess up their balance compared to the larger sizes. I think their blades are a little too small/light also. It's a shame that Chatterbait didn't take more time to get them right. All you have to do is look at their original hooks to tell what that company is all about!

This is what I've used with good success, also a bit-off Zoom Fluke(not super fluke or super fluke jr.). As far as running right, I havent had any problems with the dozen or so that I've thrown. I throw mine on either 8 or 10# braid. They
weigh so little that I don't think any mono/flouro over 6# test would let them run right.

I have also never really had much luck with the Micros, out of the 3-4 I have bought, only one of them has ever run well. I am going to try to hand-tie a lighter skirt and change out the snap on my bad ones to see if that helps.
The one that did work was maybe the best stocker trout lure I have ever used, it was amazing how productive it was, right up to the moment a pickerel stole it from me.

No trailer. I never found one that worked well.

Maybe a 3" hazedong or spark shad?
