Vibrating Jig Question
Vibrating Jig Question
I've been catching fish on this one vibrating jig. I actually have extreme confidence in this particular one and I've even retied the skirt. I noticed that Its not a full skirt like one would think and it still catches fish. Do you think its the trailer or do you think the skirt has any appeal to the fish?
i want to retie but i dont cause its still catching fishing.. i have thumb rash right now from all the fish its caught today. its an ugly looking thing though

A great bait is like a great woman. Don’t ask no questions, just hold on and enjoy the ride!
Re: Vibrating Jig Question
Ugly to you not the fish. Injured baitfish are an easy target. Full skirt gives the bait a bigger profile it might match the forage better the way it is. I thin out and shorten the skirt on almost all my jigs spinnerbait and chatters if I’m running a trailer. Too much skirt can also hinder the performance on a lot of swimming trailers. You might be getting better action from the trailer due to its condition. Many reason why it’s working and none from me why it wouldn’t. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Thanks all
I was able to see it coming through the water and it actually looked amazing
The skirt is green pumpkin with purple strands and I think the trailer is by 6th sense and it’s Shad shaped green pumpkin with purple flakes.
It’s working so I’ll let it work.
I remember when I couldn’t catch a thing on chatter baits
Now I’m just pretty good

They’re addicting once you get the hang of how to use them. Plus they produce bigger fish than many other baits, and you can fish them in the junk.
Re: Vibrating Jig Question
Take it from someone that is a skirted bait specialist with over 4 decades of experience making and throwing skirted baits, the amount of strands can make a difference, but it's usually several attributes of the lure that make a lure effective where you are throwing it. Thinner skirts tend to be better for smaller baitfish presentations. Thicker skirts are often used to imitate bulkier bait like bluegill and crawfish. I throw bulkier skirts at night because I want more water movement and more surface area for attractant. Also, as you catch fish they will bite off strands. A 50 strand silicone skirt is usually the starting point for darker bluegill and crawfish baits. 30 strands is usually the start for small shad baits. I think it was good ole tour pro Basil Bacon that said that your spinnerbait had to have exactly 18 strands (or something close to that). It obviously worked for him because he won a lot of money throwing spinnerbaits. It really is all about the confidence. I carry about 15 colors of skirt material in the boat to make sure that I am not forced to throw a skirted bait that I lose confidence in because the skirt is thin or the wrong color.
Re: Vibrating Jig Question
Well if the bladed jig is working so well, the only way we could answer the question is if you share which secret jig you are using.
I kid. I'd just throw that thing until it stops producing.

I say, beat on it 'til the skirt falls off!

now is the time to duplicate that bait that gets bit.

Re: Vibrating Jig Question
Same problem ! I had a white one that was fantastic. I was bringing it back to the boat and a big smallmouth tried to grab it close. I missed the strike and the vibrating jig hit the trolling motor with a funny THUNK ! It was never the same again. Nothing looks out of whack but ????
Re: Vibrating Jig Question
Make sure to close that hook eye well bro, or solder it shut, so that the blade doesn't cast off.
