What is your setup of choice for fishing the horny toad?
When do you start throwing the toad and what Toad type
baits have you found are as good or better than the Horny Toad?
What hook are you using? I've found that a bead in front of the toad does help
it come through weeds better. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

Right now I am using the croix LTB 7'4"Heavy with a tuned curado 200e7 and 50#832 braid. I think a long rod is key, with some tip to throw the weightless plastic, but lots of ballz to put the hook in those bucketmouths.
I have caught fish pretty early on toads, late march maybe, as soon as fish head shallow it is worth trying.
The horny toad is still my favorite, but the ribbit is a very nice toad too, totally different sound, so sometimes I will fish one and then go back over the area again with the ribbit.
I have tried just about every hook out there and by far my favorite is the owner twistlock 3x in 5/0, the 4/0 beast hook also works well

I T-Rig mine on a 5/0 EWG hook, with 50# braid, MHXF rod, and a CH50E with a HawgHandle.
