Looking to try a curly tail worm around 10 inches. I tried the zoom mag 2 and was not impressed at all. What would you recommend to try out and what hook do you use?

A Culprit Fat Max 9" is a mondo worm. You need a big EWG, think I used a 7/0 VMC last time. They are a very thick worm, like a big musky grub or just a huge bass grub. Work amazing on a wobble head. Had a custom a while back, used a gambler wrecking ball with a split ring to the 7/0 VMC and it was a monster slayer on ledges. Stopped fishing lakes as much and they are too big on our little river.

Another good worm that size is the Big Bite Kriet Tail Worm 10", like a big Senko with a tail. Lake Fork worms and Reins Bubbling Shakers are nice in that size but very fragile. I realize you said curly tail, but some of the big straight tails work wonders too. That subtle shimmy light shake helped me, so I got away from big shaking tails.

The mag 2 is a 9" thin worm, it's not my top favorite either but I do like it.
For a good 10" worm I highly recommend the Zoom Ol' Monster. It's noticeable thicker in body than the Mag 2 and the tail has more meat as well. That's the worm I catch all my good worm bass on. If you're going after real monsters, the Magnum Ol' Monster is what I like.

To an already good list, I'd add two XCite soft plastic worms, the 10" Raptor Tail Worm; and, the 10.5" Maximus Worm.

XCite plastics have no salt so their tails float up. One of the top kayak anglers in my area uses these on a Carolina Rig, just won another tournament championship using these.

YouTube has a video or two showing the action in the water. Likely worth a look.
