scorpion 1000xt UL set up?
scorpion 1000xt UL set up?
Anyone ever set up a scorpion 1000xt for UL lures? Thinking about swaping out the bearings with abec 7's or 9's if i can find them. Also a avail shallow spool with 2-4lb flouro. Will it work?
I don't want to blow that much money on something I might only use a few times a year.
Thanks for any help.

When I think ultra light - i don't think scorpion (or any baitcast reel for that matter)...
The scorpion is a very good light lure heaver - but 1/8oz is the absolute lightest i would go.
2-4lbs test, you want to be throwing 1/64oz lures...
Just my opinion...

What weight range of lures do you want to cast?
Re: scorpion 1000xt UL set up?
As low as 1/32 would be great just don't know if it's possible with a baitcaster.

You might want to do a little more research around here.

That new Daiwa U.S. market Pixy would get you within site of the capality...for a mere $500....then there's the rod to aquire.
Anyone ever see a baitcaster in use with a Tennessee handle??

Honestly - if you want to fish UL... 4-6lbs test line. GO Spinning! better able to handle light line - better drag!

Yes, but you need to get a really ultra light trout BC rod. (Most of the finesse bass BC rods on the market still couldnt do the job).
My trout BC setup could cast a DIY globug with split shot down to around 1/16oz. For sure it cant beat spinning, but it's fun to use and it DOES work.
For less headache and blowing less money on tackle, go spinning. Enjoy.

I have a stock Curado 50e(us version 1000xt) that I use for throwing 1/8 oz. with 4 lb test which is the lightest that I can go. The thin line can sometimes slip under the spool edge and get cut. They just aren't built to handle line that thin. I was able to fix it by putting some clear nail polish on the spool edge. Yes, spinning gear is better for light lures and light line---but baitcasting gear offers a different kind of challenge As far as a rod, I think a light action 7 ft will work in a pinch. I like a longer rod to help give more casting distance.

Superlight microcast spool is the best upgrade you can do. Look for recently released Yumeya BFS spools, I believe they have it for Scorpy1000.
Re: scorpion 1000xt UL set up?
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I ended up building one of my Curado 51E's up. Avail shallow spool, abec 7's, removed anti rev paw, slight gear polish, Avail mangnetic brake and a drop of rocket fuel. I can cast 1/16 oz about 50-60 ft with 6lb seagar using a phenix recon 712L rod. Im sure I could cast further if i dropped down the line to 4lb but Im using it for drop shoting as well. I went with the Curado because I have a few of them and there all the same gearing and bla bla bla. My 1001xt and Cores are all sent up for tougher duty, and different so it made sense. Once I find a Ul rated rod we'll see what she can do.
BTW any one know of a UL BC rod that isn't $500 + or anything in the states?

First pic, I was looking into a green engine handle for this untill japtackle discontinued them. After this I painted the stock handle and cast control black for the time being. Also wanted a core drag knob but they are backorder at shimano, so I might just get the avail one.

Sorry for late reply. Let me find......
That baitcast trout rod is "Guts 鱒レンジャー Z-CT 56M". I hv bought it for some times and from memory it cost about 7,000yen shipped. Unfortunately I believe it has been discontinued already......and so do many other nice baitcast trout rods.
I pair it with CQ51S now which is fun for bullying little fish. And if you search around there are Japanese bloggers hv better results then me.
