A big old NJ Large Mouth caught on UL tackle.

How small is your rod and how light is your line? It's not about the size of your tackle, but how you work it. Come share your Ultralight and Bait Finesse System (BFS) fishing success here!

A big old NJ Large Mouth caught on UL tackle.

Post by Ranger 619VS » Fri Aug 29, 2014 3:47 am

Hey guy's,

Been a while since I had any note worthy fish to post up. They say good things come to those who wait! This past Wednesday I stopped by a friends small pond and fished UL from my 12 foot row boat for his abundant 1/2lb to 3/4lb bluegills. There are ample LM Bass in the pond. I have caught 3 fish here in last 7 years over 5lbs. I truly believe it was the same fish. So Wednesday I am fishing a panfish size 2" senko in white on a size 4 gamakatsu wacky rig hook on my G. Loomis TSR740-2 ultra light rod, matched to a Daiwa Exist 1003H native Custom UL. Spooled with 4lb crystal fireline, 3' leader of 6lb Berkley vanish. I make a cast to an area about 4' deep and boom!!!!!!!! A few minutes later I net my biggest LM of the season. 21" Long and dead on 7lbs on my boga grip. I was so excited I took crappy pictures in my haste to return her to the pond. I am posting a picture of a 7.75lb fish from 2010 and this fish and you guys tell me if you think its the same big girl.

I'd say different fish. It may be a trick of the light but the 2014 edition looks fatter than the 2010, yet your measurements say it weighs 3/4lb. less?

Whether it's the same or different fish, it's definitely a beauty!

Could be the same - color can change due to diet and water conditions, time of year etc.

Regardless, awesome fish Brian =D> Pond fishing is a blast at times.

Funny you mentioned the 2" Senko. Last weekend I broke out my stash and threw them for a bit. They're not even available on the GYCB site anymore. Long discontinued. I got all of mine from Cabela's for $.88 a bag about 5 years ago. I repair the torn ones with Mend It. Once they're gone, they're gone for good.

Very nice fish. Why do you use a leader with the fireline? I fish 4lb. fireline without a leader.

Brian,

Gorgeous fish. Could be the same fish if the pond is small enough. Certainly hope that one keeps making babies.

Two beautiful fish. I would say they are different due to the pattern differences and the gill/cheek plates looking like they might be shaped differently.

Very nice UL Bass . I've been enjoying fishing wacky worms myself lately . I Hooked a nice one last week , but unfortunately mine dove into a moss bed before I could get her in sight . Never got to see her . She sea sawed a few times and then my knot gave up at the hook .
