Crappie rod
Crappie rod
Hello , I'm looking for some inputs on what rods do you guys using for pan fish fishing . I bought Daiwa spinmatic 7' UL $40 rod and mounted my Fuego A 2500 on it with 4 LB Seaguar InvizX Fluorocarbon but I think (I may be wrong ) that this rod is not to sensitive and I'm not enjoying it , its good for casting light lures but I don't like it ,so I already ordered Daiwa Luvias 1003 , I will put the same line on it and I think that St. Croix Avid 7' UL Fast action 1 pcs rod may be good crappie/pan fish rod , I know that there are some JDM UL rods but $200 would be max for me . Thanks in advance.

Re: Crappie rod
If you want something a bit stiffer, go for a faster action. Major Craft has lots of good options under 100.

Re: Crappie rod
I like my primary Avid...a 6'6" two piece. They are nice and made in the USA; probably the only rod I need for UL if it came to that.
Some of the very high end stuff sounds fantastic, but I can't afford it...nice to hear about it though.

Re: Crappie rod
Hi,
I really enjoy using my Fenwick River Runner 6'8" Light power fact action. More of a Mod-Fast with plenty of backbone for more than panfish. However, when the water gets rough and more weight is needed to keep the bait/jig down I rather use my Dobyn's 702 SF (just out of price range). I often use both of these rods when allowed to used two rods.
Cheers,
Eric

Re: Crappie rod
I fish a lot of 1/8 oz jigs on brush and my favorites are both St Croix Avids, 7' ML and 7'6" ML.
Re: Crappie rod
How about St Croix Panfish series rod 7 ' Light XF 1/16 - 3/16 ,what do you think about Pac Bay Minima guides?
Re: Crappie rod
Another vote for the G. Loomis TSR series.
Specifically the 791. I have it and its amazing.

Re: Crappie rod
The best rate I could find on those were $245 at FishUSA for the non-GLX model...might be doable to fit the OP's budget if they have a Black Friday sale.
Re: Crappie rod
Is there big difference between glx and regular rod in overall performance? also b/c my Daiwa spinmatic is UL maybe I should consider Loomis 792 ,this way I would have 2 pan fish combos ,Daiwa luvias 1003 with Loomis 792 and Daiwa spinmatic with (maybe pflueger president 6920x that I have to buy,5.9 Oz looks like it may be nice reel) also do you think that luvias 1003 was a good choice for 4lb line? I know that it holds less than 100 yards of 4 lb line but I don't think I will use more than 30 yards I'm asking b/c I was considering luvias 2004 but with 1003 when I will replace line I may do it all the way to spool with out any starter line .

Re: Crappie rod
Talking Luvias and Loomis is exponentially better gear, hence more expensive...though it makes sense to match the quality of rod & reel, essential really.
People argue about reel/spool size all the time. The Japanese seem to go for shallow spools for casting UL weights. I'm sure that their are pro's/con's that people will dive in with.
Having the GLX version seems to add $50 to the base rod cost. There are many Loomis users here who can better explain GLX than I can. I did read where it was recently improved in some rod lines.

The Spin C is an entry level UL rod...the 6920x would be fine for it.
Here's the spec's on those rods:

Re: Crappie rod
I checked st Croix pan fish series at local Cabelas, I don't like handle and they should put better top guide , I received my Luvias today ,very nice reel . They didn't have any TSR rods at cabelas, but I read on TT forums peeps like them a lot so I think Loomis will make good combo with luvias , but question is which one TSR 791 or 792 I will use mostly 1/16 Oz and up lures so I guess 792 may be better .
Re: Crappie rod
Well now I'm just thinking if Major Craft MSX 67L or TSR 792?
Re: Crappie rod
If you want the finest crappie rod on earth get a Tict Ice Cube Rockin' Drift 6' 9".

Re: Crappie rod
Tict rod is too expensive for me and I prefer 1 pcs. Rods ,I think I will buy tsr 791 regular for around $230 ,GLX is a bit too expansive at $385 for me .
