Phenix Elixir

Post by sqhertz » Mon Apr 17, 2017 8:33 pm

Does anyone have experience with the Phenix elixir rods? They look great on the web but no one down here has them in shop. How do they compare to the Fenwick river runner?
I'm looking for a 6'6 to 7' UL/F for jigs and hardbaits up to 1/8 or 3/16.

I have one and have owned several River Runners. It is a nice rod and pretty much compares to a River Runner....although the Elixir is a better looking rod IMHO. But a 7 foot Elixir is around 190 bucks vs a 7 foot River Runner which is around 149 bucks and some places is 129 bucks. IMHO I don't think the Elixir is worth the extra money over the River Runner.....with the exception as I mentioned that the Elixir is a better looking rod. I see you are in Florida and I don't think you will find one in any stores there. I had to order mine from Utah.

I didn't notice the price difference for that length though I'm not opposed to shorter rods.
I really liked the new style river runner I had but that bar code they put on the blank really killed it for me.
Did you have the split or full grip elixir and how did it balance with the reel you had on there?

Thanks!

How do they load with baits in the 1/16 to 1/8 range?

I have the split grip with the burl handle...looks awesome. I never used it for anything heavier than 1/32 and most of the time a 1/64. It casts those fine.

Well I ended up with another river runner but this time a 5'8 ul. For $110, I couldn't pass it up. Much shorter than I'm used to but it works...
