Rapala X Rap

Post by uljersey » Wed Jan 17, 2018 12:45 pm

Saw some in the Dick's dump bin for under $8.00 each, there were some of the smallest 04 size (1 1/2") in with them. How are they ? Are they worth grabbing ?

If they are the 1/16oz, they can be slightly troublesome with bfs gear. Good bait though

They are all pretty good baits, I like the suspending ones. I am not sure what size I use most, but I have more than a few in my jerkbait/spybait box though. Bought a bunch of them when I did more lure shopping at Wal-Mart and local small shops.

I like the x rap 8 which I think is 1/4. One of my favorite smallie lures. Not sure about the smaller ones.

I bought a bunch of the Xrap size 4 when they first came out cuz the bigger sized ones were killing the white bass and smallmouth bass. Tried them several times for trout fishing but can't get a bite on them.

Old style Rebel tracdown/floating/suspending minnow and Yozuri pins minnow do so much better at getting fish to bite, especially the suspending Altima pnis minnow.
slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish

I'll second the not beimg able to get bit on the 04...The 08 was a great bait I got away from for some reason. But the 04, even when thrown in waters where aggresive river gills will hit anything u throw, just...nothing.

if you want built in action. Go husky jerk, or ul minnow.

Xraps don't bring much of a built in wiggle regardless of size.

probably the most subtle lipped rapala they've ever made on a straight retrieve.

I'll add...i never fished or used the 04...so it may be different.
tough to tell but it looks like the lip on the 04 may not be glued on like the other sizes...Which is why I no longer buy them.
I gave up after half a dozen lips popped clean off on rocks

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up at another Dick's where I grabbed 10 of these LC lipless baits on a "buy 5, get 5 free" deal ... glad I didn't go for the Rapalas ...
