Olympic Corto GCRTS -742-T
Hi guys, I recently bought a Corto 742, currently the reel I use for ultralight fishing is a Shimano Soare C2000PGSS with a Tict CBS S22 spool,
I'm worried the reel might be too light for the Corto, may I check what sized reel or reel recommendations are good for the rod!
Thank you!

I have found that a (Shimano)size 2500 with shallow spool is ideal for >7' Mebaru style rods. The 1/2k are a little too light to balance properly.

Given how light the rod is - sub 2.2 ounces if I remember correctly, I would think that even the lightest reels would balance balance beautifully? Have you actually gotten the rod per chance? Love to hear back what you think of it. And what weight lures you cast with it.

Bear in mind that you can get shallow spools for some USDM reels like the Stradic - https://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/phone ... t-list/643

Ultralight-
I am currently trying it now! It casts beautifully, I would say with my Soare it does feel a little heavy, but not too imbalanced as you mentioned it's only about 63g!
Even with the tubular tip I can still feel the bites of little fishes pretty amazing.
I'm using 3g jigheads but I think it is slightly more suited for more than 4-5g.
I'm from Singapore so where I'm at getting a fish is really a big bonus! But I'll keep trying!
Allsorts-
Yeah I love that site! Haha pretty poisonous it took all my money when I got my BFS reel.
Got new bearings new dress parts, and their quality is pretty decent!
Thanks for all the kind replies!

Thanks. Interesting, that rod is rated down to 0.8g lures..... Alphahawk did note that his in the 6' 10" is among is stiffest rod.

I mean it can cast it but I find it a little too light when it's below 3g.
But well that's just my opinion, and I'm definitely gonna practice more!
My 610 is arriving tonight, I'll try it out and see the differences and maybe do a comparison!

Something to consider is what kind of line you are using. I know with my TenRyu Rayz Spectra the switch from even high end nylons to high end PE really made the rod shine and it easily casts 0.8g spoons without effort. Something I couldn’t do with the Nylon.

That's very true! I have a spool of Tict Jack Bright polyester line which casts beautifully! I was afraid of it snapping today so I didn't use it.
But I'll definitely try out the next time I'm on the waters again!
My 610 corto arrived and man is it a beauty as well!

I wonder about the size of the butt guide. That's the first guide the line encounters out of the reel. If it is very small such as size 12 then then braided lines will work a lot better. Using stiffer lines such as mono will be limited in casting distance. I wonder if that's one of the reason.

Try some ester on that bad boy. See if that doesn't open up the bottom end.
This is the way.

Rustyfisher1508, love to hear your comparison between the 7'4" and 6'10" just in terms of flexing. How is the overall power? What about the tip - does the 6'10" solid tip feel a lot softer? Is the 6'10" also noticeably faster?
Thanks for any comments - I'm quite curious about these two specifically so it is great that you got them.
Thanks!

Hi Ultralight, I haven't got the chance to actually test it out on the waters yet, but I'll definitely let you know once I've done, hopefully during the weekend!
From the general consensus I've heard, the 610 solid tip will fit much better if you're using more soft plastics with jigheads while the 742 tubular tip does better with small lures! But that's just what I've heard!
I'll definitely drop a reply here once I've tested them out both side by side
