lines for bfs setups

Decided to try out suffix nanobraid 2 lb. line is thin!

That's some small line .04mm, it may find itself wrapped around the spool shaft easily but should also cast crazy far as well.

That was my first thought, I wonder if the tolerances are better/worse on that aftermarket spool (assuming Avail)??? I know there are a few different reels out there and certain spools that people definitely report line getting through on spool lip. I thought the 6lb Nanobraid was thin on a light spinning rod. Was going to use 8lb on BFS, if 2lb works fine though, I will probably just stay with the proven 6lb.

i'm sorry. that's a 1/16oz owner jighead. i posted that pic because that's what i caught fish on.


but the lightest that day was a 1/32 Sierra Slammer Minijig. Not sure the exact grams of the total package.

So stock PowerPro 8lb is .005"/.13mm, and 12lb Gliss is listed as .005"/.127mm, so is it possible that the aftermarket spool actually has better tolerances? I could see them keeping it not too extreme from the factory to work via general purpose/easier production/easier removal maybe...
On a side note, I never got to try Gliss. I want to say I saw it on cheap clearance a few places, but never needed line at the time. Seemed like it was the next big thing then just faded from talks.

Yes I think the Avail spool has tighter tolerances and hopefully the gliss doesn’t give me any problems. As for the Gliss it’s awesome casting line but it’s slick so you have to tie good knots and it has no abrasions resistance what so ever and it isn’t as strong as advertised, I would say the 12 is really 8lb. It’s fine as long as your not fishing around rocks logs or other trash in the water because if the fish pulls you into it the Gliss will break almost immediately.

I have that rod to and its a noodle no doubt but it will sling anything no matter how light. This rod loads with the weight of the rod alone so if your spool is light enough this thing will sling it.

1/64 would be 0.44 grams. TM is easily over 1 gram. Some have measured 1.2 grams.

i'll weight it when my scale comes in. at this point, i'm happy either way. my bfs set up is up to par with my phenix elixir 7'6" 1/32-1/4.

Trout Magnet does make a version called the Mini Magnet that’s 1/200 oz. for fly fishing or used with spin on a dropper rig. Lots of fun trying to get those Mini Magnet soft plastics on that tiny hook.
