I did in fact order the XF50L and for chucking beetle spins and light cranks, as long as it can actually do it, I think I'll be fine with it not being as refined as my Aldie's. I can't expect THAT for 55.00 + the cost of the carbontex washer upgrade, another 6.50.

For a recreational outfit for occasional once or twice a month bluegill fishing, i am hoping it will be pretty cherry. The infrequency of use was a big factor in not dropping 350.00/400.00 into another outfit specifically for this type of fishing.

Glad to see objective feedback on the Tsurinoya. Like I stated on my original post where I documented the teardown of it, it is NOT on the level of a Daiwa or Shimano, but there's no denying the fact that with a bit of refinement it is quite the capable little reel, especially when paired with a rod that will further enhance/compliment it. I mean c'mon, we're catching panfish, trout and an occasional stud bass on tiny baits, not an albacore tuna out of the Atlantic Canyons.

The fact is that we're well into the age of achieving mechanical tolerances with stunning precision, accuracy & consistency, and it's not the exclusive domain of a few entities as it was only a few decades ago. We're gonna see a lot of cool product coming from some upstart manufacturers. I'm old enough to remember quite well when "Made In Japan" was code for "Piece Of $hit" and look how that turned out. We're just seeing the cycle repeating itself with new players.

Your post was the straw that made me decide in favor of getting the reel. Again I don;t expect the XF50 to be in the realm of my Aldies but if it can cast the 1/8oz beetle spins consistently, it will be money well spent for me.

I could always switch out another reel to do that if it can't and the XF will be used elsewhere in the line up

The XF-50 is a good solid reel and I also have the Dragon rod but in 5' and love the action and feel of it, I think you made a good choice on a budget minded combo.

The Dragon rod came today and I also think it was the right call. It feels perfect. I like that it isn't a noodle rod yet is soft enough that playing even smaller fish will be fun,

So far so good but I want more time with it before I do a detailed review.
