Well I couldn’t stay away...

How small is your rod and how light is your line? It's not about the size of your tackle, but how you work it. Come share your Ultralight and Bait Finesse System (BFS) fishing success here!

Well I couldn’t stay away...

Post by Craigthor » Mon Dec 16, 2019 4:28 am

So figured I’d get a new UL rig to play with. The rod is an old friend that I’m getting back from a buddy who prefers his BFS gear. If I get really lucky maybe it will all arrive by the weekend so I can test it out Sunday.

Rod: Varivas TRD Native Trout Rod
TRD-411FS-4
4'11'' (1.50m)
2 - 4 Nylon or 0.2 - 0.4 PE
0.1 - 6.3g Lure
66g Rod Weigth
4 Sections

Reel: Daiwa/ SLP Works featuring Day Sprout
DSLT1000S-P
Gear Ratio: 4.8:1
Winding Length: 23.6 inches (60 cm),
Line Capacity: Mono 2.5 lb-100m PE #0.3-200m
Weight: 5.3 oz (155 g)
Maximum Drag: 11.0 lbs (5.0 kg)
Bearings: 1 Roller / 11 Balls
Body Material: ZAION ZION
Body: LT "Light & Tough" ZAION Body
Drag mechanism: ATD

Line: Sunline Small Game PE 0.4/ 6lb

Will be a fun rod for hike in places and for some of the smaller waters I like to fish. With much more limited time to fish due to work and family I need to make the most of my available time.

Yeah it was a totally odd ball find when I was looking at reels, super stoked I know many people don’t like the slower retrieve rate but I’ve had several reels with it and it works for me.

Congrats! That reel is the perfect crappie reel.....not to mention true finesse. Do you know which model Daiwa reel they have converted.....or is it a stand alone model? Looks like something right up my alley.....where did you purchase? Thanks in advance.

I’m not sure which model they altered the specs are sweet looking. Hoping once it arrives I can learn more. As for purchase I’ll pm you the link as it’s not a site supporter

Got my rod and reel in plus some line on it. This reel is amazingly light, ultra smooth and just damn sexy. Balance is spot on and a great reel for the rod.

Damn that is one beautiful reel, and I don’t even like spinning reel.

That's a sweet combo. I have been wanting to replace my SS700 that is 30 years old with a new 1000 size reel. The SS700 has been my trusted trout companion. It has accompanied me on countless trips in the Sierras, Rockies, and Cascades. That Day Sprout could be the one for the next 30 years. :D

Sweet looking reel. What do you think this reel is based off of?

Feels a lot like the Exist I owned previously. Spool looks very similar to the SLP Exist Spool. The zaion frame gives it a super durable look that isn’t flashy or a finish that will chip.

Looks to be an Exist with SLP parts, according to Japan Daiwa website:

That’s one fine reel but it is not a blacked out Exist. An regular Exist is nearly 1.5 times the price and a SLP Works Exist sells for 80,000 Yen.

All I have to say is this reel feels just like my old Exist LT1000S-P, fishes and reacts the same. Definitely a must have reel for me.
