BFS Help
Looking to get a lighter bfs setup, my current setup is more of a mag bfs and looking to get a little lighter. I plan on getting an Black Themis in place of my current rod but looking for something lighter for my ul lures. I have a pixy type r and a Steez ct sv either of which I’m fine with upgrading to a bfs spool. If anyone can give spool recommendations as well as rod recommendations, preferably JDM. I plan on throwing lures between 2-6 grams maybe up to 7. Looking to throw small soft plastics, jigs, flick shake worms, Neko rig and small treble hook baits.

Re: BFS Help
Get a roro or Amo spool for Steez ct. I have a Steez air 28mm spool with spacers available that will fit ct.
What’s your budget?
Lower end budget but great performance I like any of the major craft ms-x limited bf rods or Expride 165L.
Higher end check out Fenwick Aces 63clp, 70clp+j (perfect for neko/ned/bottom contact) 70clp is more of a power bfs rod. Treble baits my favorite is the Gaptools justace custom finesse flip GT-FF62LSB which is spiral wrapped and has solid tip. Feels like bass taper when casting and working bait but when a fish is on it bends like a candy cane.

Re: BFS Help
Budget is probably 400 max on the rod. I’d love to get an MS-X limited in L or UL, or both, but can’t seem to find them. The other option I was thinking was the speed style, love major craft rods and the bang for buck. What is the capacity in real life like on those spools, looking to fish braid to leader and want enough capacity for break-offs not so much bombing casts.

Can’t go wrong with either of those ms-x models. I have both models and a friend has the ml bf. The msx limited is as sensitive as my aces and perfectly balanced w/ 4-5 oz reels. Most bfs spools are in the 50m range line capacity with 6lb flouro. I use 6lb suffix nanobraid when using braid and can fit quite a bit of line but I try to stay around 35m-50m for performance. I have the ul speedstyle 2pc for travel but haven’t fished it yet. Feels nice and seems to have similar load characteristics to my 65ul msx limited. If I recall I think the speed style was lighter by a few grams then msx limited.Finesse Angler wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 10:01 pmBudget is probably 400 max on the rod. If you live near San Jose you can try out any of my setups. Have like 14 bfs combos now.

Re: BFS Help
That’s good to hear about the speed style. Sadly I live in good old landlocked Oklahoma otherwise I would. Probably start with a speed style and see how I like it. Thank you for the help.
Re: BFS Help
How light are we going with the flick shakes and neko rigs? I use a ML BFS rod for 90% of what I do with those baits around docks. Sometimes I drop down to my 68L Volkey for ned rigs and 1/16 oz head flick shake head and a smaller knock off bait like BPS flickin shimmy worms. Anything else gets used one of my 3 ML rods.
