Did I choose the correct size for my new Daiwa Exist LT FC?

How small is your rod and how light is your line? It's not about the size of your tackle, but how you work it. Come share your Ultralight and Bait Finesse System (BFS) fishing success here!

Did I choose the correct size for my new Daiwa Exist LT FC?

Post by fezken » Sun Aug 16, 2020 12:31 pm

Hello guys ! Just recieved my new Daiwa Exist LT FC 2500S - C from Japan(through Ebay), and was hit with an instant doubt regarding the size of the reel. I have not opened it yet, so it is eligible for return if I choose to do so.

I will be using the reel for trout, pretty much exclusively, working spoons, plugs and small jigheads
I will be fishing in both lakes, rivers and streams. I will be pairing it with a major craft FAX UL and a FSX , depending on where i'm fishing. I will be using #0.3 braided line on this reel
I would be interested in hearing your guys thoughts on the pros/cons of the different sizes.

It's pretty a choice between the FC LT2500S-C ,LT2000S-P and LT1000S-P models.

Thanks

For what you are wanting to do with the reel..the rods you're using....I would go with the 1000 series and for sure no larger than the 2000 series. The 2000 series might be the perfect sweet spot for you.

I agree with Alphahawk on the size. The 2000 series will give you a little more flexibility for fishing streams so it is probably the best fit for your use. I have the 1000 series with two different spools. The shallow version to fish ponds and lakes and a deeper spool for fishing rivers and streams.

Thanks for the input guys. I will return this reel to the ebay seller, and order the 2000 size reel from digitaka.
Man, I wish I did more research before placing the order. I saw some videos on youtube where some russians and japanese people used the 2500 in lakes , so I figured I would go for it. They went out of stock for a time on digitaka, so I picked up the cheapest 2500 I could find on ebay.

The exist will probably be used on a much higher end jdm rod than the major craft finetails in the future, so I would hate to purchasing something that is not optimal.

Again, thanks

I believe that model is using 1000/2000 size body(which is the same) with 2500 size spool and rotor so it is not a technically 2500 sized reel. You should have better line management with bigger spool and maybe more casting distance.

Also a larger smoother drag with the 2500 size.

This is another reason I got Daiwa Ballistic FW 2500S-C over 1000SP. Same body but bigger spool 45mm compare to 42mm (2000) and 40mm (1000) which I hope to cast further distance than my 2000/1000. I use the reel mostly for bass and crappie.
Compare 2500S-C to 1000.

Thanks for the reply guys. I already returned to 2500 to the ebay seller. Just got my new 2000s , a rod and a whole lot of lures from digitaka today.
