USDM BFS rods
USDM BFS rods
So I went to get a Proflex 2 but this time in a 6'3" light rather than UL, my current UL is just too soft, but now they are almost $100 instead of around $60. Do their prices fluctuate? And more importantly, is there an alternative here in the states that is a touch stronger than an UL? Thanks.

If your budget us under $100, I don't have any recommendations, but for a BFS stick that's available here in the US for a decent price, Doomsday still makes this one:

The Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse series are pretty nice. I wouldn't compare it to an UL but, is definitely a finesse oriented rod for light shakeyheads, weightless plastics and other finesse baits.

I just picked up a majorcraft speedstyle 6'4" light powered casting rod with the solid tip and am impressed, more power than my UL powered days rod and the tip will be great with spoons and small jigs. Balance is at the lock nut without a reel on it making the tip even more lively. It was $157 on majorcraft america's website.

I meant to add, I don't really have a budget, and I really liked the Proflex 2, just not for $100 to Aliexpress. I would much rather buy a Majorcraft if I am spending that much and not have a 2 piece rod. I went back to my PayPal receipts and sure enough I was right, my Proflex 2 was $64 shipped and not they are right at $100 shipped.
I just don't get to go a ton so I was trying to cheap out as much as possible. Again I really, really like the 6'3UL Proflex 2, but even a big bream is a fight on that rod. Would like something with a tad more punt and grunt.

Have you considered going the custom route?
You can work with a builder or build it yourself and get exactly what you want out the rod your looking to buy.

Not sure about the custom route. I really should have mentioned I do have a logical level budget, just that I would be willing to pay more to get a guaranteed product here rather than risk $100 on an Aliexpress vendor who has 0-5 total sales. I did find a 6'3"Light Proflex 2, but they were $64 when I bought my UL now they are either $75 or $90 depending on vendor. I actually REALLY like the action and feel, even though they are 2 piece, just the UL is a bit soft.
Re: USDM BFS rods
Understood about the custom route but for what your asking I don’t think it would be overly expensive unless you went all out which is why I suggested the custom route. You can spend money towards what’s important to you.DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 6:21 amNot sure about the custom route. A good rod builder should be able to tell you what your looking at price wise before you spend one dime. Personally I like the process.
In any case thanks for entertaining my suggestion

I will for sure look into it, something to fill my head! Would really prefer a one piece Light+, bordering ML. 6'6" would be a perfect length, with Fuji seats and guides... Yeah the custom route would be awesome.goldrod wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 6:35 amUnderstood about the custom route but for what your asking I don’t think it would be overly expensive unless you went all out which is why I suggested the custom route.
