Budget Ultralight Spinning Rods

Post by Firstoutfisher » Sun Jan 30, 2022 11:43 am

So as part of my preparation for the upcoming trout season I wanted to get a couple spinning combos to gift to my brother and his girlfriend. I am trying to get them into trout fishing. I think I am going to grab a couple 500 size '22 saharas for the reels(open to other suggestions). Totally unsure of what to get for rods. Would like to keep budget under $100 for rod and under $100 for the reels as well. If I could get 2 similar combos but with some distinguishing aesthetics between the two of them even better.

Given your budget, you can pick up a Daiwa Revros 1000 LT for $50 each shipped if you look around...it has a nice shallow spool too.

The rods are just a bit harder...though a USDM Daiwa Presso UL rod would be close...$60-70 each shipped dependent on the length desired. Daiwa's Spinmatic D UL rods would be under $40-50 each...but are a bit fragile IMO.

Daiwa Revros or Pflueger President. Both are great reels for the money. President is a little heavy but, built very durable.

Try looking at store brand rods from BPS or Cabela's. Not bad rods for the money for UL spinning.

While visiting our daughter in North Carolina I stumbled on a one piece 7’ Falcon Bucoo UL spinning rod for $49.99 at Academy so I grabbed it. I’d say it’s actually more of a L than a UL but I wanted something a tad beefier. It’s pretty boring aesthetically, typical Bucoo gray EVA foam grip and straightforward blank cosmetics but fishes just fine.
