For those interested, later this year SLP are offering a Millionaire/Air Stream Custom reel. Y72000 initially. Looks lovely.

SLP Millionaire Air Stream Custom

Post by tincanary » Tue Apr 11, 2023 8:57 am

Looks interesting, seems SLP fitted a Silver Creek Air Stream Custom spool to a Millionaire CT, added a 70mm handle with cork knobs, and changed the side plates to green. It uses 7.2 gears so should be good for 24" per turn. Apparently these are only available direct from SLP so they will be hard to get since SLP doesn't ship outside of the prefectures. I wouldn't mind getting one for myself, but that could prove to be a challenge.

Something about that oddball green color...makes it oddly gorgeous.

How big are Millionaires compared to a Calcutta 100?
I'm talking the old round Calcutta 100 and not the new one that doesn't even look like a round reel anymore.

I was immediately typing you an answer but read the caption. You are right, the new Conquest is strangely small, especially to have a 33mm spool. My Millionaire CT is obviously bigger than that, but not massive. Mainly just the palm side plate matches the handle side plate.

Which old Calcutta 100 are you talking about?

The Millionaire 100 series frame, to include the 70/103/105 and all other Megabass and I'ZE variants, compares very closely to the OG CT 100/150 palming wise.

Appears to be a customized pistol grip.

It is a Smith Super Strike topwater rod. With the pistol grip, it is 6'6". It has IIRC, a 21g lure rating and with the pistol grip, I cannot comfortably cast it one handed for various reasons. The long handle is also made by Smith. The Smith handles are magnesium and very lightweight. With the longer handle, it's a little over 6'10".

Not bad at all. Good to see that they haven't abandoned the platform yet. https://slp-works.com/product/173562979
