Any Panfish Enthusiast On TackleTour?
Bass get all the love.
I think more than bass, I enjoy catching big panfish. They are loads of fun and provide some great tugs at the end of the line.
It's a ton of fun using staple bass techniques for them. Using a 1/16oz tungsten worm weight with a Texas Rigged small plastic like the new Zman Micro Finesse line is tons of fun. Flipping brush and lilypads for big panfish is a whole new experience

One of the fun things about UL fishing is, you never know what you are going to catch next.

Panfish enthusiast here. The last couple years I’ve been doing well dabbling crappies in timber along Mississippi River islands. Jig ‘n plastic has been the go to. This year I’ll involve some bfs pitching to the same covers. That and a concerted effort to locate the ever roaming jumbo perch. The river is still very high, so I’ll take what she gives.

Pitching micro jigs and baby Texas Rigs is a ton of fun. I'll be releasing a video shortly using some micro jigs on BFS gear for some big panfish. Vegetation is still low because of the late melt around me but, you bet I will be pitching into those woody lilypads fields for crappie.Smalleyez wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 6:12 amPanfish enthusiast here. A few months ago, I caught a big ole bluegill on a crankbait. So, I went back the next week with 2 pound test and had a blast.

It's funny how bluegill are the first fish mano of us have caught and as we get older, we go back to them.DarkShadow wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 12:08 pmA few months ago, I caught a big ole bluegill on a crankbait. So, I went back the next week with 2 pound test and had a blast.

Love catching panfish. Not as much as bass or a nice big trout but I do enjoy it quite a lot. Unfortunately none of my current ultralites are really well suited for the task. I was going to get a couple setups for panfish specifically and then got bit by the fly fishing bug. So itll have to wait.Over at the crappie.com forums you will find lots of panfish enthusiasts.

Fly fishing for panfish is a blast. My fly skills are good enough for stream fishingFirstoutfisher wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 7:51 pmLove catching panfish. Re: Any Panfish Enthusiast On TackleTour?
You are correct. The bluegill was the first freshwater fish I caught. I used to use a small mealworm under a bobber and had a blast.Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 1:52 pmIt's funny how bluegill are the first fish many of us have caught and as we get older, we go back to them.
And then one day, it happened. One of those "bigger green fish" ended up eating the tiny mealworm, and gave me the most exciting fight of my life.
Suddenly the bluegill were left in the rear view mirror and the bass bug had bit hard.
BUT, when you can target 1 lb+ bluegill, and catch 100 of them in an afternoon, the bass may take a back seat for a day.
