CC BFS 23 vs 17?

Post by ras » Wed Jun 28, 2023 9:50 am

Hello,

For those who now have experience with both editions of Calcutta Conquest BFS, 17 and 23, how would you compare the two?

Thanks in advance.

I like the 23 better all around. More gear ratios, smooth, casting is improved, reel feel slightly more comfortable...price is less than the 17 as well (mostly due to the exchange rate).

Gorgeous reel, pictures on the web don't do justice. Needs equally gorgeous knobs.

Sita Stag is always a nice option.

Nice setup. I'm probably going for ebony.

What handle nut did you use to replace the stock plastic? Is this with the stock handle?

Yes, that was the stock handle. I used and avail nut, but I did not have a retainer that would fit and ended up swapping to a single handle to double the fun. If I had of left it as is, I would have just put a spot of lock-tite on the threads.

Do the same covered nuts for the Aldebaran work on the Conquest BFS?

My specimen has some play in the drag star, perpendicular to the turning plane, a bit more on one side than the other. Do others have similar attributes?

Out of the box, mine had a slight bit of play. The NS Craft single handle I installed came with a washer (slightly thicker than stock) and insert for Shimano adaption. Zero play with that handle.
