PVD guides or Hialoy guides
PVD guides or Hialoy guides
Do these guides hold up as well as alconite guides? Will using braid have any negative effects on them?

Re: PVD guides or Hialoy guides
PVD is a bit too general. This is a coating on a ring put on with a Vapor Deposition process. Once you wear thru the coating, you're down to the ring material.
Hialoy is not at the same hardness level as Alconite. Alconite is a ways above it.
Any decent ceramic is going to be fine with braided lines, including Hialoy.

PVD is about 62rockwell on c scale =hard.
Re: PVD guides or Hialoy guides
Technically PVD positive vapor deposition is a process not a material. There are several materials the can be deposited using this process. The wear resistance/hardness is high enough on most of the coating materials that I don't think its possible to wear through them. Maybe silt laden braid over a 5 yr period. The coatings reduce the friction coefficient quite a lot. If Recoils are made of butter soft Nickel Ti compared to the refractories then I don't think wear is really an issue. Smoothness, durability and weight are the main factors. I think weight is even becoming less of an issue since the trend is to go with small guides.

Hialoy is good enough for any braid/mono/fluoro. The rest is just hype.
