Great job! I would definitely have more Cumaras if they had full grips.

Wow, that looks pretty cool! Wonder what it would look like with a little bit of cork...probably not too good, LOL.

I like split-grips on my spinning rods, and not as much on my casting rods. I like a full cork grip with no foregrip for contact baits like jigs and plastics, but I'm currently using a CUC72MH. It's "ok", love the rod, but I like a cork grip.

Cork was my first choice too, but with the taper of the rod it didn't seem feasable.. So foam will do.

I cannot wait to get this rod out on the water!!!

actually, you can use cork for doing a handle like you did, you will obviously have to ream it out larger, but then you can just use an expanding glue (like gorilla glue) to make up for the difference in diameter or you can simply just use extra epoxy

Using cork would ruin the stealthy jet black look

It would have been technically possible to use cork. The amount of taper in the blank would have required me to use some sort of spacer (tape?) to make up the difference between the blank and cork near the seat. Not sure if it wuold have messed up the balance or looked worth a darn.............so we went with foam and it turned out ok and feels really nice in hand.

cork would look fine... and it wouldnt have made much of a difference on balance. I have done a fair amount of them. It is amazing what you can cover up with a handle! i have take a few rods apart and found lots of interesting things that companies have used as arbors.... everything from masking tape to GOBS of epoxy...

How did you get the buttcap to stay on the handle?

Nothing special......flattened the backside on a mill file and used some extra thick CA glue (made for fletching arrows) to secure it to the flat back of the foam. Its been my experience that EVA foam and super glue are a pretty good mix in terms of "stay stuck togetherness"...... :D
