$80 - $100 blank

$80 - $100 blank

Post by Truite » Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:40 am

Hello.

I am interested in getting a blank between 80 and 100 bucks, however I have little knowledge about the blanks on this price range. I am looking for a MH, fast blank. I need a strong blank, this rod may see some peacock bass around 12 pounds. What brands and models should I consider?

So far for me the performance for the dollar blanks are the mudhole mhx blanks. I've built on several and haven't been disappointed yet.

More important than the weight of the fish...what are you wanting to toss with it? What lure weight rating?

I'm guessing you'll want to be at a max lure weight rating of 1 ounce, at a bare minimum.

What length?

Bingham Enterprises has a house brand 7'6" model that would probably be very good here. Rated to 2 ounces.

The MHX and Batson RX7 are two of the best "bang for your buck" blanks. American Tackle also has some blanks in this price class.

I'm working on my 7th, 8th, and 9th mhx and really like them. I still love my Croix customs but on a budget the MHX are great. I've had great service from Mudhole for these blanks after breaking an extra fast in my rod locker.

Most of Brazil has peacock bass, however just in the North of Brazil they like the crazy woodchopper 2 oz lures (a different strain lives there and this strain gets up to 23 pounds). LOL
I asked for a strong blank (resilient and with a good backbone) because peacock bass tend to fight much harder than black bass. They fight more like groupers and love to get in the middle submerged trees and rocks after hooked.
Lure weight may vary between 3/8 and 3/4oz. This blank is for a friend and he is thinking about building it 6’ long.

I've been impressed with Castaway blanks from Swampland.

How do the St Croix Avid Blanks compare to the Mudhole MHX?
