My latest build - St. Croix 4-piece 6' Light spinning
Well, this is my latest build. It is a Croix Premier 2S60LF4, 4-piece 6' Light. I normally prefer Tennessee handles, but wanted to be able to take the reel on and off at will so that the rod could be stored in a travel tube, and I do not like the sliding Tennessee rings. So I used a Fuji VSS seat (cut down to minimize the threads shown when reel is on), Fuji Ti Sic's 16,8L, 5, then 3.5's to the tip. I really like the black thread wraps on the black premier blank, and the way it all contrasts with the Ti guides. This will be my travel rod obviously, something I can take anywhere, flying or driving. The 6' Light power makes it very versatile I can do everything from 1/32 ounce panther martins for native trout to drop-shotting roboworms for bass. It balances perfectly with a 500 size shimano.

I made a rod on the same blank and love it.
I've caught european sea bass to 10lb, pollock to 5lb and on its first trip got a 15lb pike.
I use a 1000FD Stella and run 5lb powerpro
It packs into hand luggage and i've caught fish in Ireland, UK, France, Italy, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia with it
Best rod I have

Very very nice.
When assembled, does it feel at all like a 4 piece or does it feel like a one piece?
Would a medium or medium heavy power rod be something worth considering in a 4 piece configuration? (Thinking for my own use here )
I've fished two piece rods and cannot tell the difference between them and a one piece. Sensitivity, crispness, and overall power is identical to a one piece rod in my hands. I've never handled a 4 piece rod.

Finally got to fish this rod for about an hour the other day. Caught 2 smallmouth, each about 12", on a Tiny Torpedo. The rod performed beautifully, it fishes like a 1-piece rod. You would never know it was a 4-piece by feel or action.

Very clean build and nice components.

How did you cut the reel seat square? I seem to get uneven results (I have tried a cutoff saw, handsaw, lathe with a saw on a tool rest) and usually end up having to sand the seat in order to square it up. Maybe you have an easier way?

This build inspired me to take a look at building a 4pc setup. I was going to buy a 2pc TSR Loomis, but I found the perfect 7' 3wt 4pc fly rod blank made by St.Croix that I can run as a spinning rod. Probably run Fuji Stainless SiC Guides and maybe a split grip. How do you like the VSS seat?
I like TD-Z's

It looks good. Let us know how it handles.
