pac bay minima i.d. ?

When production rods are not enough, it's time to go custom. Come share your experiences building and/or ordering a custom rod and tell us if you'll ever go back to off the shelf.

pac bay minima i.d. ?

Post by RGMatt » Thu Aug 25, 2011 4:39 am

Did a search but not a whole lot on these guides. Want to try therse on a couple cheap builds i'm working on. 1 casting, 1 spinning. I'm used to using size 5 fujis running out to the tip.

how do the i.d. on these guides compare to that of the fuji's. My understanding is that fuji sizes by the o.d. of the ceramic, so would a size 5 minima be larger than the actual i.d. the fujis ceramic insert? if so, how would a size 4 minima compare to a size 5 fuji?

what I'm getting at is if the minima's i.d. for a given size is larger than a fuji of the same size , would it be worth dropping down a size to minima 4's.

I don't want to go w/ a guide smaller i.d. than what a fuji TLSG 5 would be.

I have some 3's and 4's I'll measure when I get home if I can remember.

I used size 5 Minima's on a 4wt fly rod build.

I found them to be very comperable to the size 6 Fuji's I used on my 4wt.

Matt sorry for such a delayed reply.

The id of the 4 is .155" and the 3 is .085". Those are within .005" accurate. I just used calipers and didn't use actual gauge pins.

thanks Tom

I ended up going w/ the minima size 4's for the light action spinning rod and after all the work stripping down and rebuilding a kistler blank I decided to go w/ fuji's

Wow, the difference between the 4 and 3s is huge . No idea - that 3 is about 60% of the 4s?

Hopefully if I remember and I'll grab some guides and bring them to work with me sometime. Then I can get a more exact id of the guides.
