Scissors?

When production rods are not enough, it's time to go custom. Come share your experiences building and/or ordering a custom rod and tell us if you'll ever go back to off the shelf.

Scissors?

Post by cjtoad » Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:52 pm

What are you guys using when you wrap rods? Had a pretty good pair, but the EX took off with them. Been trying the razor blade thing and like it for a lot of things, but still a good pair of scissors. What the best kind and brand out there for wrapping rods? Thanks in advance I know it's an odd question.

Bingham Enterprises has some ceramic ones that are outstanding. I think Fuji made them.

I think my original pair of scissors were realitively inexpensive ones from Cabela's.

I've also used my Dr. Slick fly tying scissors as well.

Any decent fly tying scissors is going to be a good rod building scissors.

If you're going to be anal about your scissors, get a pair for standard thread and a pair for metallic thread. Your standard scissor will stay sharper longer.

I use a basspro superline scissor and it works quite well.

I use a pair of plane jane hobby scissors and the thread cutters from mudhole. To be honest, I use a razor blade 90% of the time.

Thanks guys. I didn't expect so many different answers, kind of thought I get one or two. Kind of cool how everybody has found different things that work for them. Lots to try, thanks again.

I have a couple pair scattered in various tackle bags around...

Fabric/sewing stores typically have nice spring loaded scissors that open up automatically after you snip. Great little tools.

Hard to beat the X-acto knife. Buy 2 handles and paint a stripe on one. Use it for new blades/precision work and the other for all the stuff you need to do. Once the "new" blade isn't up to your standards use those blades for the :other" work. Works for me! Same applies for those on sided scraper razor blades. Fabulous out of the box and plenty of life left in them when you want a fresh one for close work.
