MHX blend, extra fast?

MHX blend, extra fast?

Post by Hogsticker2 » Sun Apr 20, 2014 11:53 pm

Anyone built on one of these spinnerbait blanks? I was just wondering if they behaved similar to the xtra fast Cumara reaction spinnerbait rods, or the same in a Loomis.

I have the MHX High-Mod 812 and it is definitely an extra fast taper. I don't think the butt section of the MHX-HM is as thick in diameter as the Loomis 812 spinnerbait rod from what I remember. I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but most of the MHX blanks do have a pretty good reputation.

I'm building the 812 Blend standard MHX now. Should be done but too much going on to really dedicate any time on it.

I like the blank.

Not a bass guy, but this is my favorite blank for redfish. I've used the G. Loomis, MHX standard, and MHX HM versions. During the Mudhole design, I built and reviewed a protptype SM for them.

Definitely extra-fast . . . here are some spec averages.

G Loomis: Weight 2.35oz, Butt 0.57", RDA Tip 69°, RDA Power 519g
MHX SM: Weight 2.19oz, Butt 0.55", RDA Tip 68°, RDA Power 504g
MHX HM: Weight 1.86oz, Butt 0.52", RDA Tip 69°, RDA Power 522g

Any truth to the rumor that St. Croix manufactures the MHXs?

I thought I heard it was American Tackle. Maybe the high mods are Croix? What caught my eye on these extra fast blends is the lit states these feature mid flex models, so I was wondering if they were similar to gen. 1 reaction Cumaras. They were labeled as an extra fast, but had a pretty parabolic bend.
