blanks that compare with JDM spinning rods

Post by RIng » Sat Mar 25, 2017 10:05 pm

Hi all . I am just getting into JDM spinning rods . I enjoy building rods and fishing with what I build . In looking for blanks that might be similar in action , I have come up with Phenix Iron Feather and maybe Mirage . Any one out there have any suggestions ? Thank You

Unfortunately, I haven't messed around with any JDM UL rods.

The Iron Feather is a good UL option.

Matagi, out of Japan, has some models. While I haven't built on them yet, T-Russell blanks are very good.

CTS has some blanks that I know UL guys are fond of.

I've enjoyed NFC's options.

Don't overlook fly rod blanks. You can get a great UL rod out of a fly blank.

Would be interested in perspectives from an American blank builder like Gary Loomis NFC and stuff designed in Japan. Are there real differences? Or has rod technology really conformed and found commonality on an international scale?
