Anyone built on the MB 704 HM?

When production rods are not enough, it's time to go custom. Come share your experiences building and/or ordering a custom rod and tell us if you'll ever go back to off the shelf.

Anyone built on the MB 704 HM?

Post by Samuel_b » Thu Apr 11, 2019 9:06 pm

I'm curious about how it compares in power to the MB 705 or typical medium powered casting rods?

I have not built on the 704 but have built the 705&706. I spoke to Northfork and they called them the “triplets” saying there was practically no difference between them.. I can’t honestly tell any difference between the 705 and 706 so maybe for once I might actually agree with something that they say .

I wasn't aware of the 706...unless it's the one that's IM only. I know there's not an HM 706

I have a HM 704 black widow and I like it for lighter jigs t-rigs in the 1/4-3/8oz range. Its rated to 1/2oz but I think its better suited for the 1/4-3/8 range. I don't have a 705 or 706 to compare though.

I got one of each last year but haven't had a chance to build them.

The RDA powers are MB704HM 410g, MB705HM 456g.

The 704 is moderate action, the 705 is fast.

Thanks that helps! I had a mb 705 hm and loved it but from what I remember it was more medium power. I’m planning to cut one to 6’10 and build a jerk bait/finesse rod. I’m leaning 705. And that’s right I remember the 706 now, it’s the one they built for the TT search for the one blank...it was a slightly modified 705.
