K2 Blank Sensitivity Compared To NRX, Conquest, Poison Adrena Level Rods

Hey guys I was curious if a K2 is truly comparable to the higher end rod sensitivities like the ones I listed? I want to start getting into higher end rods and I like building mine a lot but if I'm not able to achieve the level of rod like a NRX by building I'd rather just buy one.

YES. DEFINITELY. ABSOLUTELY.
They are also lighter. Just know they are not a true fast. More of a slow fast, but not a true moderate fast. The powers also run upwards to a full half power less than what the label suggests. Extremely crisp blanks, very lively... I can't say enough good things. The biggest bonus of everything - You get to build it yourself. Meaning you can bring out the full potential of the blank.

That's good to know Hogsticker. I'm waiting for my PB 731MHXF
to come in and then I'll be picking up a K2 to build!

I much prefer my K2 736 custom with spiral wrapped torzites than my NRX 894 with recoils.

My custom 714 is insane. Like said before, less power than spec'd and more of a slower type of fast.
I used my 714 for light-ish Texas Rigs and...I needed more backbone. I now use mine for jerkbaits, shakeyhead, topwater, senko...anything like that.

So if I wanted a 3/8 to 1/2 oz texas rig rod you guys would probably go with the 715? I was looking to at the 714 and I wanted to add some to the butt to get it around 7'4".

I really wish I had the same experiences as everyone else since I loved my K2’s. Unfortunately all they did was break. Even had the replacements break. All breaks occurred while casting well within lure weight range within the first couple trips. Phenix customer service was terrible as well and took several months each time I needed a replacement. After a few rounds of this, I gave up. Point Blank is just as good in my hands and doesn’t break. I say this to make you aware of the what can happen, it’s all over the internet if you search.

I would go with the 715 for those weights. 714 "can do it" but, not really ideal. I havent used the 715 so, I am merely going off the fact that my 714 is right outside the realm.

I have the K2 715 built with a Fuji PTS seat. The seat insert probably doesn't help the sensitivity, but it is not worth the price in my opinion. It is sensitive, but not NRX sensitive. Some of the old threads on here say that the lighter blanks are more sensitive, but brittle.
The 715 is a great long distance casting jig rod for 1/2 to 1 oz. with heavier line. It is a little stiffer and slower than a comparable Loomis 844 blank that I was replacing. I was hoping to have a blank with a fast enough tip to do roll casting for short distances with a 3/8 to 1/2 ounce jig, bladed jig, or swimjig, like the 844 is great for. It didn't quite fit the bill.

Well I just glanced at North Forks website and they were having a sale of $150 off per blank. So I picked up an HM and an Xray both for $250. So I'll be adding those to the build list lol.

Imo, K2's are pretty comparable to NRX sensitivity. There are stand outs though, like with any lineup. The 715 is the one you want for 3/8-1/2oz t-rig/jigs. It's pretty comparable powerwise to a 844 glx.
Stay away from the 714. It has much less power than a 843 glx. The 764 sees a bump in power, then 765. The 715 has more power than all of those. I haven't used the 736.

You have to remember that some of the sensitivity of the NRX comes from a minimalist seat and recoil guides. Both of those help save weight and help with strike detection. I haven't fished any of the North Fork blanks.
