Introduction: With Ken Whiting you can always expect the unexpected. Each year at ICAST he has something to showcase and it's usually something that's out of the ordinary, either a new rod design, concept, and in recent years, truly innovative offerings that often use unique materials. So prior to this year's ICAST we wanted to do a "What's Up" With Ken Whiting and get the early scoop on things before they make their debut on the show floor tomorrow.

I have a hard time understanding the use of these "new" style hoods on reel seats. This style reel seat was rejected by fishermen over 100 years ago, when sliding and locking seats were patented and used on almost all quality rods. These "new" hoods are bulky and uncomfortable in hand, rather than being smooth and smaller in diameter.

I guess we're living in an era when bling is more important than practicality. Oh well, I'm just an old geezer.

I'm pretty stoked about the new rods.
The Puls-R is one of the most comfortable rods in my hand that I've ever owned, minus the weight and the fact that the reel seats couldn't hold a reel in place.
I've really liked most of Ken's efforts, especially his Moderate/Parabolic action rods for moving and topwaters baits.
