An Understated Victory for St. Croix Rods
Introduction: Thanks to overseas manufacturing options, it seems with each passing year we see a proliferation of rod companies. Despite the many advantages this approach presents (namely costs), there remains a handful of manufacturers who craft their rods within the United States. Companies who roll their own blanks within the borders are even more rare. A mainstay in the industry since the middle of the twentieth (20th) century, St. Croix Rods is one of these rarities. Not only that, they've remained family owned and managed during this entire time. It seems quite fitting then, that one of their latest introductions is a series of rods to celebrate this achievement. Victory was introduced at ICAST 2021, and here's our detailed look at their 7'-3" medium powered spinning rod within this new lineup, introducing the VTS73MXF.

Was it really 40lb Upgrade that you spooled up on that 3000, or was that a misprint? I know this line’s diameter is smaller than most, but I’d imagine 40lb to be a little on the heavy side for that setup.
Re: An Understated Victory for St. Croix Rods
I thought the same thing. Somewhere between 0.8 and 1.5pe braid would be more appropriate, conventionally.
Re: An Understated Victory for St. Croix Rods
Yup... 40lb Upgrade. Don't think I measured the diameter on it, but I basically use it to fill the spool and then my leader is about 30' long.

Re: An Understated Victory for St. Croix Rods
Is the guide closest to the reel seat a 20 mm.?
Re: An Understated Victory for St. Croix Rods
Always confuses me how they determine the size of the guides.. measuring the inside of the first guide, I get a little over 18mm, measuring the outside diameter of the insert, I get a little over 23mm.

Re: An Understated Victory for St. Croix Rods
Thanks, Cal! That would be sold as a Size 25 guide.
It would certainly make more sense to label guides by their inside diameter, since that is what matters in casting.

Hence my confusion when trying to determine guide sizes!

Re: An Understated Victory for St. Croix Rods
I've held a couple of these and they are certainly nice for the price point
