Introduction: In bass fishing, there's a certain fascination with baitcasting reels. Among experienced bass fishermen especially, there exists a stigma associated anyone who favors spinning gear over baitcasting gear. Anglers who fit this description are simply not taken seriously. This is all fine and dandy when tossing crank baits, spinnerbaits, and rip baits, or when moving in close to cover flipping, pitching, and punching, but how about those times when everything in your arsenal fails and it's time to throw in the towel declaring What the Finesse"? Like the enchanted ring calling for its evil master, your precious spinning gear is virtually irreplaceable in these situations...

Excellent, excellent review Cal! Good to see the data from the machine hit publication. Both seem like outstanding builds...except for that one...little...item.
Seriously, who is making those decisions?! An unadjustable cast control knob on a finesse baitcaster is just silly.
Of course, the inability to use braid on the T3 Air might turn a lot of people off too.
Taking "set two on and forget it" to a new level...whatever level that is.I couldn't get the tension knob's spanner tool to seat properly on the tension knob without taking the reel apart. Shimano did it again.

Awesome Review Cal
A spanner tool to adjust the cast control ? and it does not do the job as designed ? Seriously ?

Dear,Cal
Actually the Aldebaran has cast control knob ,it is on the non-handle sideplate. The red button between the word ci4+ and SVS.

Hi BEST79,
Base on the specs. you provided, the cast control adjustment can be done on either side of the spool shaft ?
or just on the non handle side ?
If this is true, the spanner tool is also for disassembly purposes and not entirely for cast control adjustment alone ?
Re: Bait the Finesse?!? Shimano -v- Daiwa Product Insight
Yes, that tool is only used to disassemble the reel for maintenance purpose only.Jayce wrote:BEST79 wrote:Dear,Cal

The change side of cast control knob is called "core fit body"

Try google translate it might help.
Re: Bait the Finesse?!? Shimano -v- Daiwa Product Insight
That's interesting. Does it rotate like a normal cast control knob?
Re: Bait the Finesse?!? Shimano -v- Daiwa Product Insight
Yep KTF refers to that part as the "lube hole cap".

Interesting... Maybe my faith has been restored. I will take a look and address it shortly. Thank you.BEST79 wrote:Dear,Cal

A funny thing happened after work today.
I dropped by the local shop here and saw a Bob BFS LH model. The shop owner told me it just arrived today
I got a chance to play with it and indeed the mysterious part #86 is a cast control but if you have big fingers it might be a little hard to adjust it.

With exchange rates the way they are now, the Shimano can be had for around $350 and the Daiwa for $550. Price is before shipping. Much more obtainable now.

latest reel comparison
I read the Daiwa vs Shimano review, and all I could think of was needing a pair of channel locks to adjust the spool tension on the Shimano reel.
Not something I would do, or expect to have to do, with a reel of that price and quality.
Maybe they're just setting us up to have to buy OEM aftermarket spool tension knobs.

Re: latest reel comparison
It's still a $500 reel that you can't adjust without removing the handle and drag star....fishingandfords wrote:Look at huge price difference
