Shimano Re-Ignites Their Shining Star : The 2015 Aldebaran

Image

Introduction: Originally introduced back in 2009 and dubbed the Alphas Killer (in reference to Daiwa's Alphas platform), the Aldebaran has been a staple in my collection ever since. Six years later, in 2015, Shimano re-imaged this reel and upped the ante by including it in their JDM import lineup to be sold in US stores. It's taken some time, but here now is our look at the 2015 Shimano Aldebaran.

Looks like you really like the Aldebaran, solid review on solid reel. My view on the Alpha would be very similar. Shimano reel hit home runs with the Aldebaran and Metaniums.

Totally spot on review though with BFS tackle 1/8 oz is easily achievable.

I agree. As always, some 1/8 oz baits are easier to throw than others... Spoons, spinners, crankbaits, no sweat.

I was getting good distance with the rapala ultra light minnow 4.

My brother has been recommending that bait as well (for its casting ability). I will have to try it out.

Shouldn't the MSRP read $429 rather than $329?

It actually doesn't cast that well, it has no weight transfer system since it's so small. But the aldebaran handled it really well.

MSRP is actually 39,600 JPY which, at the time the review was written, translated to $329.

Because this reel was not designed for the North American market, Shimano increases the US price of this reel to cover warranty claims, so if you want the warranty coverage, purchase from a US retailer. However, do so knowing the reel is actually available for much less.
