The Search for One: The 13 Fishing Archangel

Post by Cal »

The Search for One: The 13 Fishing Archangel is the Very Definition of a Halo Product

Image

Introduction: With a name like “Archangel” it was pretty clear where 13 Fishing intended to position this rod series. The Archangel rods were introduced two seasons ago as the flagship rod line of the fast growing tackle company, and one of the first rods to implement the Fuji Torzite guides. Designed from the ground up this rod is built in Japan and is built with what the company describes as the best components, materials, and craftsmanship that the world has to offer, all at a cost of course as these rods retail between $649-$699 dollars each! With premium materials and a price to match we delved deep into this rod series, and after fishing the Archangel for a full season and a half we are finally ready to dole out our verdict.

Thanks USA-RET, it was definitely one of the more exciting rods I've had the opportunity to test over the last season. It's always nice when the performance stands up to the positioning. No doubt this is a very big investment for any angler, but I hope we will continue to see 13 Fishing keep pushing the envelope on the high end.

Great review! I was actually thinking about this same model so perfect timing with the review :D

To make sure I read it correctly, the rod feels a little lighter in power than the 843 GLX? Looking at the line and lure specs I was hoping it would be a more powerful MH than the GLX. If you could confirm that would be awesome.

Thanks!

Completely agree about the cork/eva combo. One of the primary reason ALX never got any of my money.

Hi, checking the specs and you list line wt. at 8-16, and the lure wt. 3/16 - 5/8. These specs match the spinning rod specs.
TW lists the 7'2" MH at 12-20 line wt. and 3/8 - 1oz. lure wt.
Will the 7-2 MH throw a 3/16 bait easily?
Just a bit confused.

I have the MH. I don't think it would cast 3/16 total weight very good. Sweet rod though

Thanks ccass, seems like 3/8 - 1oz. would be the proper rating.
