Introduction: During ICAST we came across a new bait for Berkley in their Powerbait soft plastics, the four inch Jester. It's a crawdad imitator designed to move in the subtle and not so subtle ways depending on current and how much movement you try to impart to the lure through the movement of your line. We brought some in for a closer look.

How long has Berkley sat on that design? Doomsday has been around for several years now.

Berkley has been sitting on the design since 2013. It was first known in Japan as the Berkley Bubble Creature 3.8

Those notches on the claws look a lot like the tail section of the Imakatsu Javalon which has got to be 10 years old, at least.

That type of shape is actually far older. It goes back to a Mann’s “spear” type grub. Then Iaconelli used that to design the Devil Spear, then a Designer from Asia used that inspiration to create the Bubble Spear 2.2. Then the following year they created the Bubble Creature (aka) Jester in 2013. The Designer of this bait left Berkley in 2015.
