New reel

Post by Bassonly » Sat Sep 15, 2007 10:45 am

I need a new reel to go on top of a G.Loomis GLX BCR854. It will be used for jigs and soft baits on structure, and around medium cover. I am considering the Core, but it is a little pricey. I may go with a 50mg.

I have that rod and reel......makes an excellent combo, but I actually prefer a Curado 200B on that rod because I use bigger line on jigs and prefer the line cap. and stronger feel of the 200B......but you'd be quite pleased with the 50Mg and the 854.

Another option would be an '05 or '06 Metanium XT. These are very good reels for just about anything you want to do with them and they're a more powerful reel than the 50Mg. Personally, I like a reel with some power when I'm fishing jigs and such. But the 50Mg would be a great option as well.

The Chronarch 50MG will be fine. I prefer a reel with a little more line capacity as well. Currently I use my Core. I used to use my Calais 100A until the Core came out!

The Chronarch B is another great choice.

I have fished with a 100B and liked it... I will probably go with a 50 or 100 unless I come across a good deal for a Calais on eBay.
