Rick Clunn Lucky Craft - Colors + Sizes?

Post by Captain Chaos » Tue Sep 18, 2007 11:36 am

Alright guys. Looking for some tips from folks on those Lucky Craft Rick Clunn baits as they are on sale at BPS again. Your favs, Deep diver vs Square bill, colors and sizes for fall fishin'? I went ahead and picked up a 2.5 square copper green color but will be picking up some more.

Please note what part of the country you are representing too. Just so folks can compare vs their home waters and fish seem to behave differently in different regions.....if you don't mind.

Thnx

My 2 favorite colors for just about anywhere that I fish here in Louisiana are chartreuse shad, which has chartreuse sides/black back/white belly. The other color is white shad which has white sides/black back. My favorite size is the RC1.5 square bill. It runs 0-4' and casts very easily since it's 1/2 oz, and the size is just right for around here...not too big, not too small.

I just caught a 4 lber on my RC1.5 chart/black this past Saturday at a local lake. There was a big fish tournament going on that day, and we found out that my fish would have won 3rd place when we went and watched the weigh-in... ](*,) ...There's $300 I could have won..

Those are the best new crankbaits to come out in a long time IMO. Its one of my top 2 baits for sure. I mainly throw the 1.5 and 2.5 and my favorite color of all is the blue bream. I've caught so many fish on it that I've flat wore the paint off 4 or 5 of them now. I mostly fish in So. IL, on the Ohio River, Rend Lake, Shelbyville, and I also go to KY Lake and Barkley a lot. That color has worked everywhere I've been tho. i've caught fish on just about every color they have, but the blue bream is my confidence bait. If I'm shallow cranking I'll have a 1.5 and a 2.5 tied on and ready to go at all times.

Anyone ever try a .5 size?? Looks like it would be pretty fun with a finesse type rig??

Added the blue bream to the shopping list.

Thanks

I had the 0.5 in White Shad at one time before my line broke off and I lost it a while back. It is definitely a fish-catcher. You'll catch a lot of smaller fish with it because it's so small, but it's sure a lot of fun to fish with a finesse baitcaster setup.

.5 and 1.5 in bull bream are my favorites.

I would say bull bream is my top color in a 1.5. I have had fish hit that color in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska. I would say the top two colors overall are blue and bull bream IMO. I haven't tried the deep divers yet. I talked to a guy who fishes in tourneys at BPS and he said if you like the shallow divers the deep ones are just as good.

Tacklewarehouse has the 1.5's for $9.99 with free shipping over $50 order. 8-)

My favorite colors are:

*copper green
*blue bream
*ghost minnow

Those 3 colors cover the whole water color spectrum. 8-)

OK i need to ask a NEWBIE question!

What do all the numbers after the lucky craft lures mean? And do you really need all the numbers?

I use the .5's in early winter to mid-summer, and then switch to the 1.5's for the rest of the season. I pretty much use blue bream all the time when I'm using RC's.

Do not buy the copper green shad or the blue bream. They are useless. I caught a 3 lber on a 1.5 copper green this past Saturday

I went out tonight and absolutely crushed 'em on a RC 1.5 DD, in the Pearl Green Shad pattern. I was fishing 4 foot of water, stained, up on the flats searching out stumps and rocks. Although at the end of the night, the bill was all scraped up from grinding through the rock and muck, the sides were all scraped up too....from the teeth on 3-5 lb bass.

All of the Rick Clunn Lucky Crafts with the square lip are "rated" for 0-4 feet. The .5-3.5 are just the size of the lure. The .5s are tiny, the 3.5s are large.

The depths on the DDs(deep divers) do vary depending upon the size.

Thanks for the info. I did think that but just wanted to be for sure!
