A little MB help
A little MB help
Hi there new to this awsome forum and From Sweden
So pls easy on me and my English haha.
Now I have read alot of posts about Megabass Rods and still have problems deciding on witch one to get, so I really could use some of your expertise to help me choose the right one.
So some info which lures I usaly use and sizes..
I kinda fish with alot of different lures but I dont feel like getting 1 rod for each perpuse hehe. But I mostly use Spinner Baits, Spoons, Crankbaits, poppers and smaller Jerkbaits. All these baits are around 1/4 to 1/2 oz and Jerkbaits around 20-25gram (no clue how to write it in oz sorry )
So the problem is What power rating/taper should I be looking for?
I have been looking at the Diablo it seems to be a good choice with top action (should work good with smaller jerkbaits?) and the Jabberwock Evo, any other models I should be looking at?
Well thats all I hope someone find some time to help me out. Its rather hard to decide to get something true import as these kind of rod dont exists at all here in Sweden.
Over and out!

Re: A little MB help
Welcome to TT Dalcar! Those are two exceptional MB rods. I have one of each and would recommend them highly. The Shiryu would be a good choice for treble hook baits too.

Jabberwock Evoluzion!!
Re: A little MB help
So the Jabber could work for smaller Jerkbaits to? So confused I am close to take a ticket to Japan to try the Rods out
Re: A little MB help
btw what is treble hook baits?
Re: A little MB help
Treble hook baits are any hard baits that use the three pronged (treble) hooks instead of the single hook and are fished in motion.
examples:
Treble Hook Baits - crankbaits, jerkbaits, etc.
Single Hook baits - spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, plastic worms, etc.
The rod I would choose for 1/4-1/2 oz baits such as you described would be something along the lines of the Elseil or most any F4 powered MB rod with a "regular" taper.
But for jerkbaits at 3/4 of an ounce, I'd go for something like the Diablo.
If you can only get one rod, the Jabberwock Evo will bridge the gap but is best around 1/2oz - 5/8oz baits... it'll go down to 1/4 oz and up to 3/4oz but the other two rods mentioned will present those targets better.
examples:
Treble Hook Baits - crankbaits, jerkbaits, etc.
Single Hook baits - spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, plastic worms, etc.
This really describes the need for two rods. 20-25 grams equates to roughly three-quarters (3/4) of an ounce.Dalcar wrote:... mostly use Spinner Baits, Spoons, Crankbaits, poppers and smaller Jerkbaits. Damn you Cal you just gave me a headache
Ok I am starting to get this think I just skip the jerkbaits as I dont use them so often and focus on a rod that does 1/4-1/2 oz insteed.
Now I have a real problem understanding what "taper" stands for hehe.
So the Elsei is a medium Taper and the Diablo/Jabber is more of a medium fast taper? And that means what?
I am looking for a rod with a sensitive top/tip? So when I use those smaller spinners I can feel the action, but I dont want a to sensitive rod thats wobbles like mad man but has a strong backbone..
Omg its really hard to explain in english haha.
Hmm lets try this in a different approach does someone have a Shimano Lesath 9 fot rod? if so how would you rate the rod in action/taper? As I have one it would help me understand these terms

Re: A little MB help
Thanks for the link url it explains it perfectly
I have looked at the Jota rod to but I am preatty sure that I dont want a slow taper, so that leaves me with a medium fast or a medium
They sure a have aloooot of rods to choose from
One thing I dont understand why use Diablo for smaller "Jerks" when it has a Slow/medium taper shouldent the taper be more fast when Jerking the bait?

Re: A little MB help
I was wondering what you were talking about, but even the standard Jota is a medium fast.Dalcar wrote:Eh sorry for that I looked at the wrong rod the Jota Evo has a Medium fast taper so thats perfect, and ofc the right SB handle

Either way it looks like a sweet stick and is in the range your looking for. Also the 6'4" length would be a great size to use for close in work.

Dalcar,
You need to confirm your rod selection, and probably start a new thread, listing what brands and models are sold there, or are you looking to buy online JDM. Then, what price range you are looking for.

Re: A little MB help
Ah sorry dont want to start to manny topics
But the rod will be a F4 1/2-64XFti-SB JOTA DorumStick..
The baits about 1/4-1/2 oz..
And I will import a reel from http://www.plat.co.jp. They have most Shimano and Daiwa reels but I could go for a ABU as well.
Price isent a problem as loong its a good fit for that rod.
