Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Speaking of casting reels only... do you reel with your right or left hand?

For spinning reel anything goes. I fish w/ right and left depending on the setup.

I hope Shimano and Daiwa are listening. Seems like left hand is popular. Perhaps 5:1 left handed Shimanos are on the horizon and Daiwa releases lefties at the same time as their new right hand offerings. I haven't read the replies so this may have been said already. Sucks to have to wait or switch choices because the right (I mean left) choice isn't available.

For example, I've owned Shimano since I was a kid, was looking for a cranking reel in left hand and couldn't find one because the Curado is only right handed. Looked at other offerings and found the Crazy Cranker. In doing that, it opened my eyes to Daiwa, I now own a Pluton, Type R and Z2020H is on the way. The Crazy Cranker is next depending how much I like the Z, might get another Z with a lower gear in place of it. Had Shimano offered what I wanted, I may never have bothered with Daiwa. Ironically, for me, it worked out but I'm guessing Shimano has been somewhat short sided on their understanding of a left hand market. Why that is escapes my understanding.

dominant hand is right hand; reel with left. It just felt more natural to work on the rod no matter on lure presentation or fighting the fish with my right hand~ but I can and have done both~ 8-)

All my reels are lefty crank and I am a right-handed person. This includes all my saltwater conventional reels . . . . this option is an expensive one in the salt as only a few make lefty reels.

Let's face it, the rod should be in the dominant hand so lefty reels are "right" for most of us.

I'm one of those dominant lefties (throws left) but do everything else right handed. I reel with my right hand, cast with my left. I say I am left handed but I bat right, eat right and write right. My dad is a true lefty.

I'm right handed, reel always with left hand, cast with right.

Ill be honest here...when I first started using casting reels I used left hand retrieve, but after becoming more and more comfortable with them I believe right hand retrieve is more comfortable for me...I write, golf, play hockey, and fish right handed...I understand the "pointless hand switch" complaint because it does get slightly annoying at times...I just feel I get more leverage on the fish reeling with my dominant hand....however, I still reel lefty on all of my spinning set ups... 8-[

Naturally right handed reeling with the left. The more coordinated/powerful hand manipulates the rod which is more important to me than simply reeling

I to am right handed but reel with my left hand. If you are swithching hands when you cast it is probably because when you started fishing there were no left handed reels. :D If you are swithcing hands when you are casting there is a good chance that you have missed some opportunities to catch a nice fish right as your bait hits the water. Along with that if you don't switch hands your casts will be more accurate which as we all know can help you catch more fish.

Dominant right hand which I like to use to control the rod. Lefty reels for me. ;)
