Braid Knot
What have you found as the strongest knot for 30-40 lb braided line without a leader? Ive read alot about the "Berkley braid knot" but I have never used it...Ive always used the standard uni knot but ive lost a few lures to larger stripers...im sorta new to the braid game soooooo any advice is great...

Palomar knot. Wet it before snugging it.
Re: Braid Knot
I've never had a Clinch knot fail on braid, and it's the only knot that I'll tie cause it's so simple!

Re: Braid Knot
I used to use the uni-knot but it would sometimes slip. It may have been user error but once I switched to the palomar knot I never had any more issues.
A trick to insure that the knot will not slop is to apply a drop of super glue onto the knot.

Re: Braid Knot
2nd the palomar knot with wet line.. i prefer to double it through the hook eye as well.
Re: Braid Knot
Just make sure to leave like a 1/2" tag end on the line because braided line does slip!

Palomar
Re: Braid Knot
Another Palomar fan here...probably because it is so easy to tie and works. It is getting harder to see the line to tie some knots!

Re: Braid Knot
Palomar. Looks like its unanimous so far.
Re: Braid Knot
I'm using the uni but I go through the eye or split ring twice instead of once. That variation made the knot the overall winner in Knot Wars couple of years ago. AFIK, still the king of knot wars.

Double Palomar....
Which is making a wrap around the hook eye before doubling the line.

Re: Braid Knot
Isn't the Berkley Braid Knot nothing more than just a double lined Trilene Knot?
I personally tie a variation of a Trilene Knot. When I'm lazy and looking for a quick knot, the palomar knot gets used.

slip bobbing is the laziest way to fish
Re: Braid Knot
That is actually not the double palomar. On the double palomar, you simply tie 2 overhand knots, instead of one, with the double line before you pass the loop over the hook....Peacheater81 wrote:Double Palomar....
