Decent spinning reel?
Decent spinning reel?
Hi! I'm in a hunt for a new spinning reel(price range - around 150$, but might aswell go 200$). I mainly fish for trout in medium/small rivers, so sizewise it'd have to be around 2500. I like Daiwas, but it seems they haven't updated their reel lineup in a while in this price category, what about other brands? I've checked Pfluegerand , the Supreme XT looks to be a solid one... Another thing I'd love - thick, Daiwa-like bail.
So could any of you share some thoughts and feedback on these and other possible options? What'd be the best one? A little bit confused at the moment...

Cabelas Prodigy spinning reel is basically a Diawa, it has the Digigear, hardbodyz construction and the air bail for 100 bucks. The Supreme XT is a good reel and you can usually find them on sale somewhere.

Plueger Patriarch 9535 spinning for sure.
Re: Decent spinning reel?
It's looks like Daiwa could be coming out with some new reels at I-cast, because there selling off some of the old models (Tierra and Advantage.) If you can wait you could pick up one of the new models or get the Advantage on TW it's only $119.99. Good luck.

Stradic FI are on sale now for about 130 or go for the CI4 that goes for $200

When in doubt, up the ante!
If you do some advanced shopping you might find a new Fuego not that much over $200. They look pretty nice to me.

Quantum Energy reels. Titanium bail wire, and magnetic bail system. No springs. The body is titanium coated and will not scratch. I've got 3 of them. The first one is 7 years old and still works like the day it was new.

Re: Decent spinning reel?
Id hit up the TW sales on Daiwa stuff or just wait another month or so for Icast.

Re: Decent spinning reel?
I have one and would say it is basically the Tierra. If you like black and red go Prodigy or if you like blue and gold go Tierra (it is on tacklewarehouse for $99 right now). Have both and love both.smalljaw wrote:Cabelas Prodigy spinning reel is basically a Diawa, it has the Digigear, hardbodyz construction and the air bail for 100 bucks. Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. I'm kinda leaning more towards Daiwa. Just can't decide whenever to wait till ICAST or just screw it and get one now. Also found another two possible reels from Daiwa - Emeraldas Infeet 2506 and the new Freams, both JDM if I'm right. Any experiences with these? Which would be the best one?

There were some awesome Certate's for $200 at Bass Pro a few months back. For 200 bux you cant beat that.Shanny wrote:Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. Get your kids hooked on fishing, and they'll never have any money for drugs or alcohol.
Re: Decent spinning reel?
I have a Pflueger Patriarch 9530 that I got off ebay for like $145 shipped. It is every bit as good as my Stradic CI4, if not better. I bought it for some lighter bass and crappie fishing and have not been disappointed at all. They have a nice thick bail. It is pretty sharp looking with the blue metallic and the carbon fiber as well. I spooled it with 6lb P-Line Fluoroclear and it casts like a dream. The drag is silky smooth. I really tested out the drag while crappie fishing this spring. Had a minnow under a cork when a 12lb blue cat grabbed hold of it and took me for a ride. Never once did I fear losing the fish or being spooled, the Patriarch handled it without fault. Very refined, well-built reels; especially for the price tag. Guarantee you won't be disappointed.

I would get a Daiwa Certate 2000 one of the best spinners out there and you can do many upgrades to it. Call BPS they have them for $199, also you can get some gift cards from palstic jungle for additional savings that would null the tax & shipping charges. I got one from the Indiana store.
The certate has withstood the test of time, its bulletproof.
