the 400 series is pretty huge for bass.

My buddy accidentally hooked up with a 25lb'er STRIPPEY and it almost spooled his curado 301 with 50 lb PP. All i did was watch and held the net. LOL

Forgot to mention it was foul hook by its gill plate.

I have used the Luna 253L and the Lexa 300HL for the big baits, up to 6 oz and haven't had any problems in doing so with both 65# and 80# braid. 9" Slammers, 10" Triple Trout, Hudds in every ROF, The Real Prey Bass and so on. I did just receive a Pluton 200HL the other day and it is sweet. I spooled it up with 25# copoly and I may even be able to get it out today for a couple of casts to test it out. I just got a 250 Slide Swimmer and I'm dying to see it in the water.

Well the Pluton smokes a lot of reels in the department IMO, nice and minimalistic with some cool looking lines. The Luna is pretty basic and that same old same gold color but it's an awesome reel, solid as a rock.

I just got back from making a few casts with the Pluton. I didn't really go balls to the wall throwing the Deps 250 but I tied on a Hudd ROF 5 and the reel is great even though the wind was against me (I'm pretty sure the same thing happened the first time I got the Lexa out). Like I said earlier, I have 25# copoly and I had a decent amount of line at the end of my casts. Granted, I wasn't casting as far as I know I could due to the wind and the rod I was using so a real bomb of a cast with the wind and a different rod and I might change my opinion about the capacity. I had the reel on the Loomis 966 because my main objective was two-fold, test the reel AND the bait and the 966 is my heaviest rod so I felt better throwing the 6.5 oz Deps on that. I say go for the Pluton anyway, but I wouldn't expect any further reduction in price.

My daughter and I just got back from the local Tackle shop and im very impressed with the Pluton over the calcutta 301,401 and 201. I paired up the Pluton to a Dobyns swimbait rod and its "PERFECT" It just feels right. I spoke to the Shop guy/Fisherman he said that for what im doing 40lbs PP will be more than enough. Thanks for everyone opinion and inputs, now time to pull the trigger.

Congrats, you made the right choice . I will caution you however on using such a small diameter braid if you are going to be huckin' real big baits. IMO, 65# and up is where it's at. Not saying it can't be done or that it isn't done but 65# and up is the safer choice. Good luck either way

50# is ok for sub 2oz baits and/or if i know i have a reasonable chance of getting a lure back, but 65# is the norm for me and for lures i really like i stick w/ 80#...
