From about November to March I put away all my "normal" baitcasters and fish my heavy swimbait rods exclusively.

I share the pain...maybe it's just frostbite....I wonder if Tacklewarehouse updated the Sale section on their site....it's been 30 min. since I checked.

I fish for German Browns and Triploids (sterile bows shaped like footballs) late Nov. through late April. It's nice cause I hit them with jerk baits, swim baits, chatter baits, and Senkos on my bass gear. I also jig for Burbot (freshwater ling cod) and Walleye if I run into a pile of them while searching for trout. The Burbot are the best eating freshwater fish I have come across, like a mini sturgeon.

Pike, walleye and perch.

Ice is still thick enough to drive a truck on the lake.

Saturday will be the 3rd day I've had a day off with the weather above freezing this year. Time to take the boat out on the river and try to catch some trout.

What is this winter thing you speak of? I fish for everything all year round! Sometimes inshore, sometimes for bass!

In winter here the bull reds (10-50lbs) are usually in full swing in the bays and beaches near the pass. The trout move into the rivers and bayous and school thick. When the water temp drops the big striper come down river to eat giant gizzard shad until the water warms back to about 70 degrees, then they leave again. They are fun to catch from 15-25 lbs on medium tackle throwing pointers for trout.

Yeah....there are shortcomings to Colorado in the fishing arena. Thank goodness for the good living and beautiful scenery!
