Stadic 2500MgFA or 2005 Biomaster 2500

Post by tonym » Sat Nov 12, 2005 5:25 pm

Alright guys. I have an itch to buy a new reel and can't make up my mind. What do think? Stradic 2500MgFA or the new Biomaster 2500.

Well since they are not the same i would go with a sensalite. I have 2 biomaster 2500 and they are great. Super smooth reels and pretty darn lite.

i have a normal stradic and it is an awsome reel, so the mg can only be better, but on the other hand the biomasters look awsome, so i am sure the one you pick will be an awsome reel

Boone. A friend of mine has the regular stradic, and it is an awesome reel. That's why I was leaning toward the MgFA version, but supposidly the new biomaster has the "SR" concept and I've heard so much about the Japanese imports being smoother and so forth than the US market reels. Any truth to the hype or is it just that?

Tonym you are right about the Biomaster with SR concept. However there is a but. If you read my review of the Stella you will note that the SR guards are metal and actually seperate pieces from the rotor and body when you take it apart. I have a biomaster 3000 and it is a good reel, however it does not have as many SR guards as a stella and to me they feel plastic and they appear to be molded on the reel rotor and body. So I do not believe they would hold up as well. The Sensilite is a good comparison to the Stradic MgFA and both are great reels. Dont forget with imports you do not tend to get a spare spool with the reel. After having the biomaster I would state that you might consider a Sustain over the Biomaster.

I understand what you guys are saying. I'm comparing a magnesium reel to an aluminum reel. I also understand that the US version to the Biomaster is the Stradic and that the Stradic Mg reel would compare to the Sensilite so I guess I should have made my self clearer. I was going for more of a buget comparison, "bang for buck" if you will  . I have found both reels for close to the same price.

I hear you, that sort of why I mentioned the Sustain for "bang for the buck" I was not impressed with the S-Guards on the Biomaster and the same goes for the Twinpower. I guess if it just Bang for the buck I would go for the Stradic MgFA. Its fine in saltwater and you tend to have somewhat of easier aftermarket care with Shimano domestic stuff unless you know the right connection for taking care of imports. Some places wont touch them. But I am sure alot of guys here on the forum could hook you up localy for care issues if you need.

:? Doc - now I'm confused. I always thought that saltwater and magnesium didn't get along... aluminum either for that matter... and that graphite body reels would be the choice for harsh environments. Gadget

the new MG reels have been treated I think. :? I know the older MGs you couldnt use in salt, but the recent ones you can. I would go with the stradic MG.

Actually Graphite flexes more then aluminum by far so if you are after big fish then Graphite is not a good choice. Well machined aluminum of high grade stands up very well to corrosion especially if cared for with some freshwater after most trips. I have not had a problem once with my offshore reels with corrosion on the aluminum body. As for the new magnesium, well I have no corrossion complaints on my Stella Mg or my Chronarh 50Mg. If you cared for it properally I would not worry with Shimano new Mg reels.
