Drop shot set up help

I am finally breaking down and buying a drop shot/shakey head spinning set up. I prefer shimano and daiwa reels. Thinking about a 2500-3000 model to reduce line twist. I am not too familiar with spinning setups and was just looking for advice on a rod and reel that I could use for both. I would like to stay under $400 for the entire setup. Thanks.

Phenix M1 ML or M depending on your preference

Stradic Ci4+ 2500

Nothing in the Daiwa Spinning around that price range is really worth buying IMO. Shimano has the better Spinning offering in the $150~$200 range.

You can frequently find a used like-new Stradic CI4 model 2500 for sale on here for around $150, maybe a little less now that the CI4+ model is out there, and the CI4 discontinued.

A Dobyns DX702S rod...in excellent condition usually sells for around $250.

They make an excellent combination for drop shotting and shakey heads.

Put 7-lb Sunline Sniper on it, and it's a nice rig.

I'm gonna go against the grain and recommend a Symetre or if you have to have a Stradic, go with the FJ. Yes, they are heavier reels but they balance out the rod much better than the Ci4. On the DX702SF it's a nearly perfectly balanced setup. If you can, try them out at the store and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for the help guys. I got my hands on a good used 702 and have a ci4 headed this way. I like the idea of a light set up. Hopefully it also balances out okay. In my bait casting set ups it seems that balance is more crucial than the actual weight. Ill be able to let you know in a couple of days.

I use the same rig, and the things that you will notice are the excellent balance and the lightness.

Exactly! Which is the reason for the heavier reel. I did the same comparison in store and the Symetre was more balanced than the Ci4.

My drop shot setup is a Shimano Stradic Ci4 w/ Falcon Micro Guided Buccoo rod and it's extremely light and balanced couldn't ask for anything else.
