When will I have enough gear?

Post by Rockstar » Wed Nov 23, 2005 11:36 pm

I got two new Rogue rods this summer. They filled my need for a light and an ultra light rod. So I was happy with my stick collection. Then I got bit real good in September using a swimbait on a medium powered spinning outfit. That one day made me into a swimbait junky, so I needed a new rod for that- an 8' Loomis backbouncer. That was too heavy for my smaller baits, then I got a Sirrus 8' mh. In the meantime I've been getting by with two Curados. So I'm short on a decent swimbait reel. Before that, I thought I was set with my Fishing Barefoot saltwater rod, and Kistler crankbait special, before that a series 1 spinning rod, and before that an 8'6" Sabre, before that a 7'mh Fenwick. Before all of this I was in the same situation with my shooting irons. Just makes me wonder what I'll get hooked on next :?: Do you think I'll ever have just the right amount of goodies? I wish catching the fish was as easy as buying new gear.

Yeah, you can never have enough gear that's for sure. I always have at least my next 5 purchases planned out. There is nothing like that excitement and anticipation of a new piece of gear coming out.

Dont worry, we all have the same addiction. For me, they come in phases, I get my reel phases where I buy nothing but reels, then I shift into my rod phase followed by lures, lines, etc.. its a cycle that will never end :) We can never have enough gear!

I own close to 300 crankbaits and I use maybe 10-15. Bags of plastics, about 200 and I use almost exclusivly green, brown, and black tubes, beavers, and lizards. Still can't have enough!

Probably never, if you're like me. Despite my lavish spending I still don't have a real finesse or dropshotting rod  , or a crappie fishing rig (except for a bunch of Blakemore Roadrunners). Large swimbaits? Nada. So I have a lot of checks to write yet.

In the meantime, I will learn to fish better with what I've got and enjoy watching my son outfish me on most days.

to give you some idea of how much we anglers spend on tackle, go to American Sportfishing Association web site and take a look at all the stats. They have great info about total monies spent on tackle, how many fresh water and salt anglers, etc., With two anglers in the house, we have lots and lots of tackle and when we go fishing, we each want to take our pride and joys.,
