SS SV gears in TD-Z/Steez
SS SV gears in TD-Z/Steez
Curious if the SS SV main gear will fit in the TD-Z(103)/Steez platform.

Re: SS SV gears in TD-Z/Steez
why would you sacrifice the awesome 3 stack drag and put in the SS gears?igl00jx wrote:Curious if the SS SV main gear will fit in the TD-Z(103)/Steez platform.
Re: SS SV gears in TD-Z/Steez
I'd like the possiblity of adding the 8.1:1 SS SV air gears in the TD-Z platformcndbasshunter wrote:why would you sacrifice the awesome 3 stack drag and put in the SS gears?
I take it the 3 stack drag will not fit the SS main gear?
If not, I can always go with the 7:1 conversion from the Tackletrap for a faster ratio.

Re: SS SV gears in TD-Z/Steez
I have two 7:1 conversions from Gary, on in a Steez 100HLA and the other in a TD-Ito 103HL. Love it!igl00jx wrote:I'd like the possiblity of adding the 8.1:1 SS SV air gears in the TD-Z platformcndbasshunter wrote:why would you sacrifice the awesome 3 stack drag and put in the SS gears?

Re: SS SV gears in TD-Z/Steez
I don't think you can replace tdz/steez with ss sv/ltd gears because they are bigger.
Compare the respective gearbox of both reels and you'll see the difference

Yes...one of the few times where an upgrade is available in LH only from Daiwa!Teal101 wrote:I have two 7:1 conversions from Gary, on in a Steez 100HLA and the other in a TD-Ito 103HL. About to pull the trigger on this mod and wondering if the PXR worm gear will fit in the TDZ?

Got one on the wayigl00jx wrote:About to pull the trigger on this mod and wondering if the PXR worm gear will fit in the TDZ?
I will confirm the fitment as soon as it gets here.
But i'm 99% sure it will fit just fine

Right on. Let us know if it worksKingofpool12 wrote: Got one on the way

Yep, I have the PX-R worm gear in 2 of my TDZ's, to help mitigate 'digging in' of braided line. Works very well, as the line doesn't stack, but actually criss-crosses itself.Kingofpool12 wrote:In like flynn

Good to know, guess I'll ad one to my TD-Ito with the 7:1 conversion.

Even though you would miss out on the multi disc drag , if the ss gears fit in a steez 103 or tdz that would open the options for cranking gears or high speed gears.

Re: SS SV gears in TD-Z/Steez
SS gears work in a Steez, but not a TDZ. Steez gears won't work in a TDZ, either. But TDZ gears WILL work in a Steez. Has to do with the idler gear below the main gear and how it relates to the main gear. The Steez main gear slides on a friction washer immediately below it, while a TDZ gear has 6 holes which are milled into the back of the main gear-which, in turn, line up with 3 protrusions on said idler gear in the TDZ, with the friction washer below that small gear(idler turns the worm gear for the levelwind). On the TDZ, this effectively locks the levelwind into doing what the main gear does. i.e., if the drag slips and the main gear ceases to move forward, the levelwind stops advancing also. Whereas, the Steez's levelwind could continue to advance if you turn the handle while drag is being taken out. Of course, minor machining of the Steez or the SS's main gear could make the gear set work in a TDZ. The only necessary mod to make a TDZ gear set work in a Steez is to open up the pinion yoke on the Steez just a bit. Off-topic just a little, but it does offer a possibility for a lighter 6.3:1 or 7:1 duralumin gear set in a TDZ from the SS, provided you can have the milling done to match the stock TDZ brass main gears.BARRAMANIAC wrote:Even though you would miss out on the multi disc drag , if the ss gears fit in a steez 103 or tdz that would open the options for cranking gears or high speed gears.
