Breaking in the Tomahawk gt3

Post by hungry_cow » Fri Apr 01, 2016 11:23 am

I got my Tomahawk GT3 in the mail and opened it up after dinner to try for just a bit. I was messing around seeing how it would handle different crank baits and wanted to see how it would handle a squarebill even though I figured it would still be too cold in Northeast Ohio and this 5.4 ponder completely choked it! My 2nd biggest bass ever not even 20 minutes into trying out the new rod!

This is really a crazy thing for me. All my 5 pounders come when trying new rods. My first 5 pounder came the first time using my NRX 893 I got a 5.2 pounder. Then the first time I tried my Jabberwock I got a 5.3 pounder. My first time using my Nautilis I got a 5.5 pounder, then this 5.4 pounder the first time using the Tomahawk! I have literally caught all my 5 plus pound bass the first time trying a new rod, I guess that means I just need to buy more if I want monster bass!

I noticed we both have a matching pair of Bass or Die red personal orders with the carbon swept handle. I agree, great reel!

Nice catch and story!!

Any observations on the rod?

I got a new GTA which I am itching to take out on the water soon.

Not nearly enough time with it to give any sort of reel review. First impressions are a very solid all around cranking rod. Doesn't feel either light or heavy, good accurate caster. Sensitivity in the range of your typical high end cranking stick, close to a Flexlite or GLX CBR but heavier. Performance wise nothing seems to be either outstanding or subpar, right would you would expect for an all around premium cranking rod at first impression.

What is great is to me the reel seat is extremely comfortable and it looks fantastic. Looks great even by Megabass standards.
