Curado E vs Curado I
Curado E vs Curado I
I'm curious, I was thinking about getting two curado E's and started searching ebay. What I'm noticing is the E's are getting more money than the I's. I've noticed a bunch of I's for sale on various forums and ebay too. So for those who's used both, can you provide any insight? Seems like a lot of folks having trouble adjusting or just not liking the new curado's?
I have two Kistler Magnesium composite rods (with the green thread) and was thinking the 200e's would be nice complements. They are for moving baits, squarebills, traps, ect.

Re: Curado E vs Curado I
I would suggest purchasing one "E" series reel and one "I" series reel and fishing both for a bit and then you decide. Some love the E series and some prefer the I series. I have plenty of E series reels but just recently added an I series Curado. Have only backyard casted it but it seems pretty nice.
Re: Curado E vs Curado I
I have owned both, (I'm use them for light tackle Salmon) I sold the E7 because it could not stand up to the D series, I liked it but it felt like it flexed under load and was never as smooth, I fished my 201i HG the first day in a torrential down pour (probably had very little grease from the factory) and destroyed the gears in one day using 10lb mono, Shimano repaired it under warranty and it has been very very good ever since, it cast better is far smoother, palms better with zero issues since. to me it's a nice improvement and I would not go back to an E series unless it's a 50 size. I noticed it really came to life after flushing the bearings, I have since put Hedge Hog studios Air Bearings in it and added a Met 13XG handle. The gap between it and my Met13 HG shrank considerably. The only thing that has not been settled is the long term durability if it holds up as well as the D and prior models it will be a winner.

It's personal opinion. I like the former brake system on the E as opposed to the new brake system on the I. Sometimes you don't fix what isn't broke.
Re: Curado E vs Curado I
Performance wise, once I learned the new braking system, I don't feel one excels more than the other.

Thanks for the feedback.

i have both. after fishing the I some more recently i cant say i prefer one over the other. i do love the E series. and if u can find one in the 120-150 price range go for it but i see some guys paying 200 or so for em and thats crazy. i wouldnt hesitate to pick up another I series tho. i think it performs better since i sent it in for a cleaning. long effortless casts, smooth, feels good in hand

Don't forget about the Chronarch E's, they are very similar or the same as the Curado E series, except they are white.

After all the talk of the new system, I think mine performs the same-no better no worse. I wish I would have kept my little Scorpion 1001xt's, they looked sharper to me, but that's just my opinion.

I have three chronarch E7's. They are great reels.ClearCreek wrote:Don't forget about the Chronarch E's, they are very similar or the same as the Curado E series, except they are white.

Re: Curado E vs Curado I
I have four E5s I bought new and unused last month on Ebay. I had three IPGs, I got rid of two of them. I put ceramic bearings and carbontex drag in two of the four E5s. I put them up head to head, no contest the Es won. My IPGs also have ceramic bearings and carbonfiber drag. They are both smooth and cast very well. I just favor the Es and feel they are better. Watch some of the pros most of the shimano pros use the Es, like Keith Combs, David Walker, and Russ Lane. They arent using the new ones.
Re: Curado E vs Curado I
David Walker is using mostly metaniums. Keith Combs uses the I series mostly too......Keith still runs some E series only because he can't kill them...

I haven't used my 70 yet because of the weather. I'll have to keep an eye out.
